First weapon model

Yeah, here it is. Since I can't use GMax for more than a few hours without losing everything, I did this in the plasma demo, since that also has a renderer. So I've already lost the model to this, but I could prolly remake it in <30 mins. It comes in around 700 polys, which is a lot seeing as how the whole thing is 2 spheres and 2 boxes, but oh well.

And one quick question: how would you make trigger guards? Boolean?

And now, for your viewing pleasure (displeasure):

It looked really really (REALLY REALLY) good toon shaded, but it wouldn't let me save it as a JPeg. Stupid demo. I mean, REALLY good. Just try to imagine

welll..err.........have u tried any tutorials yet?
that looks like a bunch of primitive put together .

A. The point was to be simple.

B. I'm not going to do anything that takes more than an hour or 2 because I can't save anything.

I make a thread asking for help on Gmax, get 1 reply. Post this to see what people think, I get laughed at. Gee, thanks for the support. I know where I'm not going in the future.

That's exactly why I don't post here as much anymore.

get used to it if you post in these forums man......the few times ive posted stuff i recieved even more negative comments than you.

I do my best to give opinions.....but i cant do it on everything that gets posted, so i just give crits on the stuff that interests me.

Hey it's your first model, no ones first model was perfect. Just keep on trying out new things and eventually youwill get the grasp.

sry m8 didn't mean it like that, 4 a first model it is good whilst u just learning all of the tools etc...

i didnt say anything about the simpicity of it.. its jsut that thats not really modeling wht uve done is put together slightly deformed primatives thats not how modeling works ,sorry if we sounded rude or anything .
you should try the galil tut by ran.

well, if you can't save it, what the hell ? + i have you a very good beginners tutorial on making a decent weapon model... if that aint help, i don't know, it just made me laugh when i saw it (so does Tommy Cooper) ;p
relax man

rofl, no problem dudez :) i never used it tho, but it's a nice start, i run trough it quickly to check for something new, but didn't learn anything from it, so if you got a question about it, feel free to ask :)

lmfao, if u give up that easy than tbh your right. Don't do 3d graphics. Everyone elses first models are normally better than yours so I class this as under average for your first model. So why in gods name should we say its amazing. I mean yes it is your first model but I tbh its very under average for it. So no cheers from me because tbh it sucks.

I'll say it again: I'm not going to try to make a complex model If I can't save my work. The Galil is prolly a great tut. But if it takes more than say 90 mins to do, then I simply can't do it. Period. I wish it was different. I really want to learn how to be a good modeler. But right now I can't. So I do what I can.

it looks good

this forum is filled with far too many losers

If you can't use the program for more than an hour and a half and you are unable to save, perhaps it's time to try a different program? Both SoftImage and Alias offer free lite versions of their software, so give them a try.
