First weapon model

hey this is the first weapon i modelled. ive modelled stuff before but never weapons ( i started about a month ago )

i use MAYA ( have tried different things and i like maya the most ... )

anyway tell me what ya think, obviously its based on the spas12 :D

well, I've never seen that weapon in RL or looked at photo refs much, but it looks pretty good. Seems a bit square though. Grip looks too fat, the curvature on the forward grip has that _very_ sharp angle, I don't think the real version would...

what's you poly count? I'm guessing it's very high, too high for a directly usabel game model, at least practically. The barrel and the circular cutouts on the collapsable stock are very smooth. I'm thinking you used primiatives and didn't reduce the number of sides? Looks like a lot of sides were I to guess. 32 or something...

Speaking of collapsable stocks, the bars leading to the hinges on the sides seem very plain. Since I don't know the weapon maybe it's like that, but it looks odd. Post a ref. image maybe?

Looks like a great start though mate! Keep it up! :thumbs:

BTW, I am no modeling guru. Don't take my crits. too seriously, I doubt I could do better at this point.

the gun looks pretty good so far, are you going to skin it, because you could add some more detail with a good skin
 
meh....its doesent have any detail imo but for a wip it looks mighty fine?
 
yeah well its my first :) i wasnt planning on using it in a game or nothing so i didnt really care about the polys. got about 2000, dont know if thats good or too much...

ive added some detail but i wont make any big changes to it anymore
 
For a first model it looks good. You have probably wasted a lot of polygons, but who cares if this was a test:) Keep practicing and you'll get it in no time.
