**FIX**- HL locks up @ 1st loading screen/Partial Download

I've seen many threads started by people that say they did the full download, and afterwards steam reported that it had only acquired 40-60% of the software, although the download had apparently finished

as a result, when they'd start HL2, the game would freeze up at the initial loading screen, and the program wouldnt terminate manually

thanks to Fuxored, it seems that Steam is NOT done downloading (duh, it says 40-60%)... if you leave the Steam client on, and right click in your sys tray and select MONITOR, you'll see that it is infact still downloading

best method to complete the download is just to keep Steam up and running (and not launch HL2 or CS:S), if you check Monitor, you can see how fast you are DLing, and confirm that you're making progres



I understand this isn't so much a FIX, but rather a means to completing the download.
Before hearing this from Fuxored, I'd deleted and re-downloaded 4 times, and even deleted all of my steam apps and files, to no avail.. so hopefully, people reading this can save themselves many frustrated hours of re-downloading and scouring the boards..

and DAMNIT valve, fix your downloader so it doesnt tell me it's done when it's only at 50%!

DOH! Thank you though! I wiped out everything after it said it was "done." Now I'm at 50% again and I'll leave it running thanks to your post. Stupid valve and it's downloader...argh.

I'm glad I only wipe it once, I was ready to bash in my computer.

Thanks for the tip ! I downloaded it twice and reintalled it twice because I thought the download went bad or the installation process went bad also...

Hope it's gonna work out this way !

w000t! Well it works, i've played some HL2 already! It did freeze on me once already, hope that doesnt happen too often!

yeah i woke up this morning to see that the monitor was at 98%, and not downloading anymore..

simple reboot of the computer and steam got it cookin again, and I hit 100% within a couple minutes after that

I've seen bunch more people posting about this, so hopefully this can stay somewhere near the front page

ive done the same thing, but its not working for me
im still locking up at the damn valve head
it plays that short guitar thing, then locks right up
