Little late to the party, but I only just got my Orange Box.

I naturally received the dreaded error for HL2 and HL2:E1 on the 'Loading...' screen (E2 and Portal weirdly okay). After many hours reading attempted fixes practically everywhere, with none working for me, I was reminded of a very annoying thing I used to get for VtM:Bloodlines when it tried to load, and how I eventually made that go away.

Joyously, it worked for me for HL2 and E1, so I thought I'd post it here and see if anyone could explain to me why.

I copied (note copied, not Cut ...) all the dlls from the bin folder to the folder where the exe is.

Should that really matter? Is my game defective? Or has that worked for anyone else?

I apologise if this is not supposed to be here as it's not technically a support question.

So I need to copy all of the dll files to the main folder where hl2.exe is to fix this problem?

Well, I don't know if it would work for you. You could try, I guess. I was just hoping someone might be able to tell me why it worked for me.
