Flash backwards compatible anyone?

does anyone know if you can open .fla files saved in flash mx 2004 in a lower flash version like flash 5?

I've played with it and i haven't had any issues with that. Though you might want to run through your application to double check for any errors before you actually publish it, flash MX 04 had some new capabilities that flash 5 didn't, so if you took advantage of those then opened it in flash 5, they'd probably need to be re-coded.

Just make sure to keep the orignal file backed up. Storage is cheep, time isn't.
