I reckon it would be a great idea to start a hl2.net folding team!!!!

It would be cool and it will help medical science,

Who's with me ??! :)

Folding@home....

its like a cpu based program which uses the power of your PC to connect to other PCs to make like ONE big PC kinda thing...I think :S

Basicaly the university of stanford in USA have collected all this data about protien in the body n stuff :P

This data is raw data however and it needs to be converted into useful information, this involves a hell of a lot of number crunching.
So they created a program which will allow people at home to contribute there spare cpu cycles to this number crunching !

linky :http://folding.stanford.edu/

Thusly once all this number crunching is done the university will have the info to start recreating these protiens in a aim to utilise them to help disese and stuff.

nb: does not cure stupidity,

Yes, I did it once before, pretty cool.

I was gonna say yes if it was Origami. I can make killer paper aeroplanes. But, no to this helping medical science thing.

*starts folding his clothes*

Am I helping yet?

If one of the mods or someone could pm meh on mirc Sometime (#halflife2)

About this if they Are up for it. :)

I don't see how it would be a hl2.net community project though :S. Sounds like a individual thing.

u can create " teams " on the site and then u get givena eam number u whack that into the folding program and all the Work units you do contribute to a team score and there is a league table of all the teams and within the team there is a league table for users :) so u compete with other hl2.net users for who has must units done and then compete with the rest of the worldaswell :P

Listen.

You make a team of PEOPLE and you get points for how much you help with and how much of your cpus processing power you let them use.More points = higher the rank.

It would help promote this site even more considering most folding projects are on a world wide bases.

Edit:What joims said...

ill make a how to guide but i really need a mode to say ok ( or munro) so that i / he could create the team on the website,
and then from that i will make the how to guide explaining it all for ya :D:D, so everyone go poke the mods ;)

downloaded and installed Folding@home..

..now all we need is a Team Number right?

Yeah!

And it kinda bit sneaky to go and make a team with out asking so looks like we gotta wait :(

I'd do it but it may interuppt my tfc, im starting to wall straff (spelling) in real life now :(. would you be able to do it constantly and to be able to join whenever your able?

straffe* i think and nechance you could rephrase your question it confusing

i The program uses spare cpu cycles only so if you were playing a game when u open it it would be slightly slower to start, but as soon as the folding program realises it cuts down on what is doing and only takes the spare cycles for its work, thusly u see not effect,

I was playing cs:s earlier and i saw no change and i might do a 3dmark one with it on and one with it off to see the actual change :P

but you can fold with any spare hardware u have and as long as u use the same username u get all the Wu to your name but that irrelevant to your question! :P

See sig. Finding aliens is much more important than curing diseases.

owww i reckon you should convert to Curing disease or do both i u have hyperthreading ;)
