Nooooooo!! Just as Eve started to suck up all my time... Now I'm faced with the prospect of double game addiction. If they've ironed out the AI quirks from last year then this game could be pretty ultimate.
finally a 3d view
They had that in 2009, d00d.

Having passed a couple of weeks' game time in the demo now, I figured I'd post a bit of an update:

It's rather stinky! And the main offender is match day AI, which is a real surprise to me. In just two matches in this demo the comp has produced more spectacular AI failings than I saw in many months of playing FBM2009. In my first game against my own reserves, my goalie managed to scored a free kick from deep inside his own half, because the other keeper stood rooted to the spot. I know Brad Guzan sucks, but he's not that bad... He certainly didn't let in any 70 yard goals in FBM2009 anyhow. And that was only the most notable instance in a bunch of others which included a fair few examples of players weirdly becoming stationary, or failing to respond to the presence of the ball properly. What a big disappointment; amid all the pretty new animations and improved graphics, the devs appear to have made a retrograde step with the player AI - the one real area which needed to be improved, since it was far from perfect in 2009.

In the rest of the game, the interface has been tidied up a bit and everything feels less cluttered. Perversely, though, it takes me more time to navigate because I spent so much time getting used to and evolving routines with the FBM2009 interface. The plain white default background is all a bit too sterile, also, although it's good for visibility I guess. There is a bit more tactical feedback from staff, which is nice, and there are a couple of other fun flourishes, but to me that's just garnish.

Oh well, it saves me from having to shell out cash and become addicted to what is essentially the same game as last year. I'm actually pretty happy that I can no longer justify a day one purchase of this or Dragon Age.
