For everyone having troubles connecting to steam.

I followed your advice, and now I am set - thanks! My problem was that when I selected HL2 from the Play Games window, a window came up that says, "Decrypting Steam files - 0% complete. Please wait while Steam unlocks game files. Decrypting Half-Life 2 game files." After a minute or so, another window came up that said, "Steam - Error. The Steam servers are currently too busy to handle your request. Please try again in a few minutes." Sometimes the second window came up right away after I selected HL2 from the Play Games Window, rather than as a continuation from the first window.
I wish Valve had given a more accurate message of the nature of the problem, but thanks to great forum support, hopefully I will be playing my game as soon as the unlock is done!
