For those of you with the memory reading problems on startup

I've read and read... fix by fix for this annoying problem. But mine was slightly different from the rest, as I would crash on startup. I read on the steampowered support site that you should disable ALL refreshrate forcing programs. I had had RefreshForce installed, and after I had removed it, my HL2 worked perfectly. For those of you who have the same problem on startup, or maybe in general, I recommend trying it. Yes, I signed up for this forum in order to tell you because I was so happy it worked.

Great, I might try that actually, as I get that crash whenever I try and set my heapsize to more than 12.5% of my RAM.

I did think, though, that Refreshforce was just something that changed your registry, rather than a programme that was constantly running in the background. But I'll give it a shot and tell you how it goes!

It changes your refresh rate to something above 60, and locks it there. So, I suppose HL2 has some problem getting the game to run with your refreshrate above 60. To "uninstall" it, go back into the ReForce exe, go to your monitor, and click reset to original settings. Check in your display settings and be sure your refreshrate is set to 60. It ran good for me.
