We added an option that you might want to try that may fix stuttering problems for some people. We didn't get enough testing on this particular fix to risk everyone running it by default quite yet:

To enable:
1) Right clip on game (Half-Life 2) in the Steam "Play Games" menu.
2) Select "Properties"
3) Select "Launch Options"
4) Add:

+snd_async_prefetch_priority 1

to your launch options.

Doesn't do anything for me.

With hyperthreading enabled, the game still runs like a dog.

Without hyperthreading enabled, the game runs at the proper speed but I get sound stuttering with or without this flag enabled.
