forcing higher directX, pls help

i have the following:

Intel P4 2.4Ghz Mobile
Ati Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP
512 RAM

i am playing CS:S in forced directx level 8 with no problem, using the -dxlevel 80 launch options command. But for HL 2 it won't let me do it. i put the command but the directx level reverts automatically to level 7.
Anyone knows why? thanks in advance.

the card is directx level 8.1 but hl2 and cs recognise it as level 7. is there some kind of setting i could change?

hl2 is far more advanced graphically than CS, thats probably why it recommends you use dx7, you can force it but your FPS may well go through the floor
