Why pay 40 dollars more to get a backlit screen, no headphone jack, and not be able to use AA's when you can pay $20 extra and buy a kit to make your normal gba backlit..

Takes some time, but eventually this is what I ended up with. And any of you haters saying that gba is for kids.. i'll have you know mario and zelda for snes are the shit. Those are the two games I play.

Be warned, if you don't know what soldering means, don't even bother following this link. You can serious screw up your gba beyond repair if you don't know what you are doing. For a while I had some weird problem where 1/3rd of my screen was tinted red, but now it's all fixed.. so if you are still interested....click here
Also, don't expect a quick response from me if you ask something, unless it's within the next few hours because i'll be gone for a day or two. They have forums on their site though, so check it out.

Gameboy is only cool when you don't have a PC. But you are usually in a poopy depression hole when you don't have one.

Where is the link?

click the word that says here ;)

I only use my GBA on trips.... ie the 24 hour drive to california :(

For starters, the SP doesn't have a backlit screen, it has a frontlit screen

Anyhow, I gave my GBA to my brother and pre-ordered an SP when it was first announced. The SP is far far far better than the GBA comfort/size/weight wise. Plus you got the frontlit screen AND it doesn't look like a giant toy (not that I care about that, but alot of people prefer the SP because it's "sexier"

I looked at an Afterburner kit for months, almost got one, then they announced the SP
I haven't played my SP in awhile, bored of the games I have.. hoping to get FFTA for Christmas, be nice if I got a GB Player for my GC too

How's the 'frontlit' screen work...? I'd always heard it was backlit...

Back lit, front lit, who cares ;). I looked at the SP too, and for anyone who has large hands at all, playing with that thing for more than a few minutes can be tough. I like the advanced's larger size because it's easier to hold. And who cares what other people think? It is a toy whether or not people may or may not think it is. And in accordance to weight, what is a few ounces in difference, we aren't talking pounds here. I guess for younger people the sp would be nice, but I just think it's a rip off for the amount of money you have to pay. And what's up with no headphone jack? Also, not that most people would care, the normal advanced has a lot of space on the inside to make other mods, such as one that adds a AV/antenna input jack so you can watch tv and things like that on your gba.

I've never been able to get into any GB or GBA game. They just bore me for some reason. Bomberman was fun, but most of the time I couldn't see what I was doing cause the screen was so dark, and there was no way I was gonna get a light for it if I only play 1 game.

My GBA is currently gathering dust in a cupboard somewhere

You want to sell it?

i'm on the way out the door, so I might not respond for a day or 2

I dunno, my hands are pretty big, I have the biggest hands in my family and the SP doesn't cramp/hurt anymore than the normal GBA. Like I said about what people think, I don't really care, but it's more convinient to be able to pull a tiny GBA outta your pocket than a huge one.

Anyway, as for the weight, I agree, but, if you're playing a game for a few hours, a few ounces can make quite a bit of difference for overall comfort, I'd prefer a few ounces lighter than heavier, but that's just me

Letters, it's frontlit so you don't get alot glare on the screen -- the lights are mounted directly below the screen and are aimed down at the display, while a backlit would be aimed toward the screen cover causing glare

I still much prefer the original GBA - the d-pad on the sp is terrible. It's also more comfortable to hold - unless you have tiny hands :)

Modding a GBA is very worthwhile - just be careful with the dust :)

The only reason I'd agree is that the way they made it it's impossible to hold it comfortably with the way the D-Pad is positioned if you want to use L and R

So, I basically avoid holding it in a fashion so I can use them, unless the game needs it lol
