If it seems like every week that Fortress Forever releases updates, it is because they are one of the best teams in the mod business. Today, they have released shots of the upcoming map conversion, Crossover. The following two screenshots are from the aforementioned map.[br]

This is gonna be one of the most wicked of all!
Their maps are looking incredible, and all of their weapons and other modeling is awesome!

Cant wait..

Yes at least they are not just doing the 'dust' source style route, and actually mixing the original maps up :).

I am not saying the originals are bad, but it just looks more inspired that way.

Looking great so far.

Cheers,
bbyybb.

Maybe Ill actually get into TFC this time around. Always looked interesting but I could never get a grip on it. :D

I love the maps and concepts, but i dont like their style for weapons :>

the weapons are exactly the same as they were in the original TFC which is good, even if they have changed the design for the maps I think the gameplay will be exactly the same (ie: conc/rocket jump from flag room to top exit looks totally possible just like in the original etc etc) good work, im tired of pretending to like CS and cant wait to get back into TFC.

Hooooooly Shiiiiiiit! That is amazing. Keep it up.

heh definately gonna give TF:S a run for it's money. (speaking of which, what happened to the TF series? last I remember doug told us to ask him about it when HL2 was out... I did but got no response)

the maps are lookin good but i also think that the models of the weapons could be better.
The sniper rifle looks totally different and looks more like a science fiction weapon.

Looking good. In any case I'm looking forward to a bit of TFC style action again. I hope this mod captures the spirit of the original.

You have no idea how much it's giving Valve a run for their money. They've even started taking such actions as to remove any mention and links of Fortress-Forever from their Steampowered forums.

And somehow I don't know how maybe through shear influence they've made many half-life 2 news-sites not post news about FF. They did at the start when FF was releasing updates but in later time they've just stopped posting about FF. This last bit is of course just plain speculance but the part about the Steampowered forums is 100% true. I wonder what Valve is up to...

One reason is probably that TFC:S or TF2 is well in the works and they are covering up the competition for maximum profit.

call me stupid but can anyone give me a few reasons why team fortress is so good? admittedly I've only played a handful of times ..I did try the RTCW mod based on it but couldnt get into it

I've never understood why it's so popular, maybe I'm just missing something ..anyone want to fill me in?

I never played TFC a whole lot, but I thought it was cool.

First off, there is the whole class sytem. Soldier, spy, engineer, medic, sniper, etc... Each class has it's own play style, a way you can hurt the enemy and/or help your team. Strategy definitely plays a part, but I only played in some random pub servers, so it was more of a mayhem gameplay thing (which I like, generally). Still, you work with your team and you can get complete objectives much easier.

There's also a lot of different gameplay modes. The major one is CTF, but there's also ones where you have to secure points, or successfully break thorugh the enemies defence and reach a certain point, or break into an enemy base and flip a switch or something. They are all fun modes.

CTF, for instance, was hella fun 'cause there's something of an adrenaline rush in stealing the flag and trying to get back to your own base with it. Very exciting.

There's also many learned tricks you can do, some more sneaky than others. Rocket jumping, conc-jumping (could never do it), putting your SG's (sentry guns) in tricky places, using EMP grenades to blow people sky high. If you get good at these things it's just fun.

To each his own, of course, and this gives many different players their own way to play. Still not for everyone, I guess. The last time I played it, only the hard-core players were still at it, and I got owned constantly. I hope some newbs start playing that I can use for target practice, really. :D

The reason i personally live TFC, is that there is so much depth to the game. Not only in skills and classes in such but in game styles.

For instance mappers can almost create entirely new games, from Capture the Flag, to Assault, to Escape, Hide and seek, puzzle, Assassination, Conc maps, Skillsmaps, football maps, torch maps, steal maps, race maps, king of the hill maps, bomb maps, etc etc etc...

So much variety , team play, and fun its impossible not to fall in love with it.

strictly speaking, TFC is pure CTF but in many varietys. like bring the flag to the cap point, traditional capture the flag, bring your flag to the enemy base, hold the flag(point). only different one was rock, its got a key instead. you infiltrate the enemy base, steal their key, and bring it to their gas chamber to release gas and kill the enemy(unless they get suit) and score points. that was one of my favourite maps of all time.

but what also makes TFC so great is the classes, like sniper (obvious) engineer, who builds sentry guns which automatically shoot enemys, and the latest adition, teleporters.
pyros, they get flamethrowers, and spies (my favourite) they can dress up as the enemy, and get a name from that team. feel the rush when i look at a soldier, and see the name "furiousV" im like AA SPY!
medics, (obvious again) and scouts, very fast.
they all get their own unique grenades too, scouts get caltrops(ok, not grenades here) which are spikes they drop to slow down persuers (like when running out of their base with the flag), pyros get napalm, which lay a bit of fire, good for blockin bridges. and so many more.

try it and see, youl love it. and see what there is to look forward to :)
hey, i wanna play it now

We'll be doing our very best to make Fortress Forever totally accessible to new players. This means bringing class specific AND general skills to the masses through several features built into the mod.

Half of the problem with TF mods is that they are tough to get into. Once you get past the initial learning curve in TFC, there's a huge monster of a game just waiting to be found. The trouble is that most people don't have the patience for this. As previously mentioned, we're going to make this as painless as possible in FF. Once you get into it, it's hard not to fall in love with TF mods ;)

there are some talented mappers on this mod..

So, is Fortress Forever is out?

How do i get this game for HL2?
