Planet Half-Life had the opportunity to do an exclusive preview for Fortress Forever.

By now you can gather that this isn?t a generic port-over with no imagination put behind it, it?s quite its own game. That?s not to say that you won?t know where you are, as several of the most popular TFC maps have been included with Fortress Forever, and have been beautifully recreated with all of the major areas done well and additional nick and knacks added in. I can assure you now that there?ll be as any 24/7 Dustbowl servers in Fortress Forever as there are in Team Fortress Classic, as the game play is still as fun and exciting as always with all of the great additions of the Source engine and the changes and additions of FF itself.

[br]Head over to Planet Half-Life for the full preview. Fortress Forever set for release this month so get ready!.

Just wanna say congrats to the team for delivering a full mod, must be a great feeling to finally be able and release it publicly! And it looks very nice as well. I hope the release goes smoothly, cause I will also play it once it gets out :)

Aw, he didn't disclose much info by the looks of things. I hope someone interviews FF soon.

I realize in many ways they are different, but my interest in this mod has dropped significantly ever since they announced TF2. I'll probably download it anyways and give it a shot since I think I'm buying the orange box for the xbox 360 this time around.

The relevance of this mod has dropped considerably, especially since TF2 releases shortly.

And if the big news tomorrow is that a beta of TF2 is coming soon, as in this month, then why even bother?

Sure, I guess if you want "old skool" you can go get this, but remember that most of the same people who created TFC are working on TF2 to make it much better than TFC ever was...

Either way, I'm sorry to say but I really don't care about this mod anymore. If they would've released a while ago with a limited set of maps or something, then the story would have been different... Oh well.

How is FF 'Old Skool'? Both TF2 and FF have both improved graphics and new maps and gameplay from TFC. The gameplay and the speed and willingness to update and improve the game from both parties will decide whether I play TF2 or FF, not which new fortress game (of which there are many) comes out first.

Because it caters to different tastes and types of gameplay? You're not going to be able to get the traditional ctf gameplay with TF2, at least not right off the bat. Only 2fort has this mode in the initial release as valve has veered away from ctf and towards domination / capture point game types. Also it seems TF2 emphasises combat over movement while a large part of FF's gameplay is based on movement.

I agree the FF team hasn't picked an ideal time to release and from an outside perspective should have pushed harder to release earlier but don't let that deter you from giving it a try upon release.

Looks fantastic, really bringing back the nostalgic feeling of TFC just by looking at those screen shots.
