The Fortress Forever team are highly apologetic about not getting FF out in 2006, but 2007 should be a good year for the HL2 mod (fingers crossed anyway). This team has told us they are getting on with it now and approaching an end point it would seem.
What can I say? Lately we've been busy with things that aren't Fortress Forever. We're still working on it and I'm optimistic that we'll get back into the swing of things now that the holidays are over. Between now and the mysterious FF release date, we'll try to give you more updates to show folks what FF is all about.

[br]This mod really is shaping up nicely and looks the part. For those die hard Team Fortress fans, it looks like you will still have something close to home on Source, even if TF2 feels worlds away. See the post below for a new action video of the Fortress Forever mod, and their website for more media and updates.

Love this new feature!

Yayyayayay!

Was only yesterday that i checked on these guys to find nothing new...check back now and Glenny already is posting the news!

:D

Hopefully will have this before TF2

Looks awesome, so much fun in it.

The guns look really overpowered though, lol.

Looks good. Although I hope they change the gun sound for the minigun back to the original it sounds so crappy compared to the old gun. And that SG sabotage thing was pretty cool.

What in the hell is up with that box showing you where the enemy is while you are a sniper...

Really, I'm not overly impressed by what I've seen in this vid. I was more impressed with the screenshots than I was seeing this in motion.

HOLY HELL I'M INFECTED SOMEBODY HELP- *thud*

lololollll

the ammo indicator on the chain-gun looks a lot like the one from Doom 3, I am NOT claiming that they are stealing it actually looks slick.

Great work FF doods, can't wait.

It is already being redone since it received a lot of constructive criticism.

Oh god, the voice acting is hilarious!
"Holly hel, I'm infected!"

Some points

-Team fortress is an unpopular concept in the year 2007
-TF2 will probably be released before fortress forever
-Failure for this mod is inevitable
-The endless delays are securing its fate
-Fail.
-Fail.

Anyone, good luck with the future delays and inevitable failure.

I'm not being very optimistic!

Team Fortress is unpoplular but Valve is still releasing TF2? Hmmm.

Sure, TF2 will take a share of its users but I can still see this mod being played.

Looks fun, seems like a few classes are getting lots of extra features. TFC was pretty well balanced so I hope these don't hurt that balance.

Looks frickin insane! Can't wait till it's released.

This latest footage is waaaaaay better than their Dustbowl Valley trailer.

I like the way how they solved Feigning with the Spy, just spawning a ragdoll and making you invisible, nice!
Looks very cool, I can't wait to play it, I always liked playing the Spy or the Scout :).

Die-hard TFC will play this, Source whores for TF2!

:upstare: Uh, sure. I was huge into TFC, still am every so often and based on what I've seen, I'm more looking forward to TF2 now than this one. I'm still certainly interested in FF, but after seeing some of this footage and the footage of the unique design of TF2, I'm more interested in that one right now.

I'm still reading through that thread, not really seeing too much about the Sniper's wallhack/tracer ability that is making me too pleased. Frankly, I'm still unconvinced by what I'm seeing. :)

As unpopular a concept as TF might be in 2007, we're still going to finish this up. We've put a lot of work into it and had a lot of fun along the way. This mod will not fail in our eyes so long as some people have fun playing it. We're positive about things right now, especially since the feedback from the beta testers has been so positive (but constructive!).

If TF2 is really set to release in June '07 or later, I can tell you FF will be out before TF2.

Lol, the voice acting is so cheesy its hilarious

"It's that armor I need more of it!"
"Holy hell I'm infected!"
"Medic, right here, right now!"

Dude it's obviously some kind of tag attached to the bullet he fired, if he doesn't manage to frag his enemy in one shot he'll have a triangulation of his wherabouts after that.

Looks awsome I'm going to enjoy this greatly and I'm going to enjoy TF2 greatly too.

Don't let a few pessimistic people put your hopes down. The release of TF2 can only benefit this mod than hurt it and there are qualitites to this mod keeping with the classic feel and gameplay of TF that its a winner in my book. Keep on keeping on.

i think it's kinda sad to see people nitpicking about delays and lack of fun around a mod project that developers put a great amount of time in it, spare time, and don't see a penny for what they do with passion. we should be glad that mods aren't a thing of the past, means it's still something you can write down as one advantage compared to the console branch.

and some of those mods have a pretty wide spread community not because they suck, you know. i guess, you don't shout out worries if the guy in this bittorrent porn makes funny noises, now do you?...

"Dude" I gathered that much. That isn't hard to understand. But it's lame. Part of the fun of being a sniper is not knowing exactly where your target is. Say you "tag" an opposing sniper and miss the kill. They either have to bide their time waiting for your "tag" to be removed, or they have a huge risk of having someone basically watch them through a wall and know exactly when they're going to pop their head out.

Last I knew, wallhacks, even ones with timed expirations did not a fun game make.

Ugh. Why do the devs need FF to come out before TF2? It's dumb, there's no need for competition, because I'll still buy TF2 and play FF regardless of when it's released. It doesn't matter much.

I understand what you're saying, but atm we know very little about this feature.

Lets say the devs make it so that snipers are immune to this tag (not fitting imo) or lets say it can be removed by picking up a medpack. Good ol' self performed surgery removing the bullet containing the tag, as well as medics being able to remove the tag. Or as you mentioned a timed release to remove the tage (battery life running out).

Snipers could use a slight advantage over other classes though tbh, as they often get raped by them in close combat. so if you've tagged a HWGuy or a medic you're safe bound to know when they make their attacks.

Definently an advantage if they've noticed a spy and tag him, no more cheesy backstabbing from them.

The fact is, the devs, or at least those with the FF usergroup at the FF forums, said all that is known about the tagging. This includes it being a timed thing with the time effect being cumulative. The sniper class doesn't need anything like this at all. For them trying to make a mod for the fans with as few changes as possible, why in God's name would they decide this change was for the best out of all of the other ones they could have made, but did not.

Missed this the first time around. To reply to Zips directly, the tagging feature doesn't provide any major gameplay advantage for the sniper himself. The purpose is to allow your teamates to see enemies you have left alive or that got past you, as long as you scored a non-lethal shot.

This feature is balanced by limiting the range from which the tag is visible, as well as limiting its duration. Players also are aware of their being tagged and when it has worn off. I can't think of a scenario currently where midfield sniper v sniper fighting is effected at all by this, except your teamates will see where a tagged sniper is hiding as they enter the enemy base.

In beta testing so far, there have no no major concerns about the feature. It seems a recurring theme that skeptical testers end up enjoying it as soon as they play and see how it works. There is an additional layer of team and objective based rewards, yet to be implemented in the beta, which will directly tie in with this feature and provide further gameplay integration and support of its use.

Believe me, much attention is being paid to details like this one and in making sure they are fun and well balanced. Thank you for your interest.
