Forum Moderatoring for idiots.

A friend just started a forum for a group of friends, i know it's not big but he just doesn't live up to the Modding standards that i know and love.
So any Mods, or others, post Advice on being a Mod, and hopefully he'll become a better Mod.
 
Isn't that just an endless circle:
not being able to be a Mod because you don't have experience
Then never getting it.
 
I'm a mod in 2 forums.


Just visit the site often, delete flames, close useless and spammy threads. ect.
 
Qualities needed for being a good moderator:

Ruthlessness.
Corruption (/me rolls eyes)
A tendency for cross-dressing
Sandwiches

All you need is a twitchy finger on the "delete" button ;)
 
check the site often and never hesitate to delete (spams and offending members alike)
 
A time commitment, and an understanding of "the big picture". Also, a good set of rules.
 
Surely a big stick used for dishing out stinging lashes of good ol' justice is a requirement.

Getting hit with a big stick may not even be a punishment for some people though. :naughty:

(Just hammer a couple of nails through the end in said circumstance). :D
 
A cattle prod or snow plow will be sufficient.

Heres a mod I made earlier, I used:

Some sticky back plastic
A cheque for £350
Fake wallet
Picture of an animal, preferably a duck
A calendar for 1987
200g of flour
A small sponge, available from most craft shops

I'll show you how to make your own moderator, later in the show.
 
You need a cold heart of steel! Steel I tell ya, stee-... or maybe it's iron. I don't know.
 
I have 2 forums. Though... one of them is for my Guildwars Guild, and we currently have communicating problems.
My friend told everyone to watch out for me, since I ain't nice when I'm mad, so they all stopped talking to me.
Err..... if's there pr0n, I might skip this one.
 
Treat everyone like dirt and brutalise them whenever you get the chance. It takes talent to do that over the internet.

But basically stick to the rules wherever possible but don't be afraid to use your initiative and heighten or moderate (hah) your actions- but then again don't plunge into hypocrisy. One idiot spams, they're a spammer, regardless of their post count or "prestige".

To be a good mod just ban everyone from the forum and use the web space to host pictures of your cat

Tips for moderating. Take no crap from anybody, threats, keep a stiff front to seem tough, but a soft interior, where people can come to you for help and be a laugh / still a human being.

I moderate a few forums and all I do it carry a big ban stick.
