If this or any other forum didn't use post counts, so you could'nt see or know how many posts you've made, would this make you much less enthusiastic to post. I no it would affect me, although I would still commit myself to Half Life 2 topics and any interesting ones. :(

Doesn't bother me in the slightest

Seniority on forums should be seen as the join date, not large post counts... if indeed that was what you were pertaining to.

there's some people who've registered as early as 2003 yet have a post counts in the single digits

like this guy

I dont think he should seniority over someone like ...I dont know ....me :)

and I dont care about post counts

seniority counts how often you make/join in/contribute topics and conversations.

I was obviously referring to those that have an active/semi-active part in the community.

Take away post-counts?! :O

I'm only here for the post-count, it means everything me.

No, you misunderstand - I said that I was referring to those that maintain at least a semi-active part in the community and originate in May 2003 have the most seniority, as they've been a part of the community the longest. You're a May 2004 noob :p

yes but nothing important happened before May 2004 :)

Err.. join date is just as bad as post counts (although I've always <3ed this guy)- what really matters is personality, maturity, and possibly a sense of humour.

*edit* HOLY MOLY, I just looked at Kuros's lasts posts and found out he was a moderator  I always thought he was some random noob... wow... that's completely smashed my mental image of him :(

Your new avatar is the hawtness, Chris.

OT, post count doesn't matter to me. I'd still post to the forums I like. It's all about the people.

On some forums they have karma. Karma is awarded for being a good and active member and taken away for being a spammer.

To be honest, I don't give a damn about post counts or join dates. If you're AWESOME, I can see it. IF you're not, I'll either take the piss, or not post near you.

Lies. I should know, I was there. :p

And once again, I must comment for like the 50th time on the truth-ness of Angry's words.

how many threads have been made on this subject? i really hate when people bring back dead threads, but in this case i think that it would be an acception...

I say keep the postcounts but introduce a carma system and have titles based on the carma system. That way spammers who tried to get up their postcount will end up with a sh*t title.

I know that SomethingAwful has that but the moderators abuse it ridiculously. :p

I can't see Karma not getting abused and dragged into things it shouldn't be.

"Repost! Karma -1!"
"Hey, that's not fair, hes new, I'm putting your Karma down one!"

"Ew you like so-and-so band? Karma -1'd!!"
"I hate your political views, karma -1'd!"

Or you get a bunch of friends who keep plussing each other and they end up with brilliant titles, regardless of their actual behaviour.

Just keep it how it is, less work for Munro.

Maybe karma only portioned out by mods.
And maybe special karma distributors(this could be used as a trial for seeing is someone suitable to be a mod)

It was Slashdot actually. Not SA :P

Wikipedia said:
Since trolling is prevalent, a moderation system was implemented, whereby every comment posted (including those posted anonymously) can be "moderated" up or down by randomly chosen moderators, changing the post's score likewise. Slashdot editors, including CmdrTaco, can moderate limitlessly, while those users who are randomly given moderation privileges can only moderate a limited amount. Moderation points added to a comment are also added to a user's karma score. Having high karma gives added bonuses to users, such as the ability to autopost at higher starting values. Conversely, users with low karma have penalties imposed on them. People that post comments designed to get more karma, for example mirroring a linked article, are sometimes referred to as karma whores.

A given comment can have any integer score from −1 to +5, and Slashdot users can set a personal threshold where no comments with a lesser score are displayed. (For example, a person browsing the comments at a threshold of 1 will not see comments with a score of −1 or 0 but will see all others.) Moderators have been known to abuse the ability to increase or decrease the score of comments, and in some cases entire threads of comments have been marked down to −1. Subsequently, a meta-moderation system was implemented to moderate the moderators and help contain abuses. However, Meta-Moderation does not affect Slashdot editors with unlimited mod points. This results in posts being modded down for allegedly political reasons. Many have called for the release of the Meta-Moderation scores of those with unlimited mod points on mods performed in the first 5 minutes after an article is posted.

I'm uber n00b according to my Join date. I'm wondering what everyone actually thinks... I am the second best thing to come out of November 2004, right? ^^

Edit: Ok, just noticed the 3,000 post members who joined slightly before or after me. I'm a little freaked out :p
