All demos are gold exclusive until a week after release.

Wasn't that way back in the early days of the 360 iirc.. And I've had one since release so I should know.

I'm stuck at work, need to go home and play this demo FFS!!

i played 5 minutes worth before work this morning, pretty decent so far

Anyway, on the Forza forums there seems to be mixed reactions, as well on other gaming forums too.

Those expecting PGR3 graphics = Thumbs down

Those expecting awesome gameplay = Thumbs up

:)

The game is brilliant, did a few races this morning before school, the graphics are a bit meh, but it runs at a smooth 60 fps and the collisions are brilliant. But the gameplay is....

Orgasm might be the only word to describe it

I have one question Dalamari, is debris handling realistic or arcade? I.e., if there's a crash, a wheel or such gets loose, is there a red flag and the wheel is picked up from the track(Realistic), or does it stay there the entire race?(Arcade)

There is no simulated damage, it's all cosmetic, so all you can do is mess up the body of the car atm, although I'm pretty sure wheels can't fall off or anything like that, but the damage models for the cars are very well done regardless

Dalamari, that's a shame because I have seen in interviews they bragged about how the physics were being calculated 60 times per second and how a wheel could mess up your car real bad if you hit it, either it's just not in the demo or they were lying..

Gargantou, it's not in the demo, collisions do mess up your wheels/axle, but in the demo it's only cosmetic damage

I played the demo for about 10 minutes and thought it was pretty weak. The graphics aren't very good at all and the gameplay was just subpar. I liked Test Drive Unlimted alot more.

Here's your problem ... you're playing a racing simulator expecting an arcade experience ... the sooner people realise Forza 2 is a racing simulator, the sooner they will appreciate it for being a superb simulator. Just open up the telemetary screen and tell me it's not deep. Add to that the shedload of features you get in the full version, I do believe this will be the hottest sim in the world. I just hope Turn10 keep adding content.

The demo itself is lame, but from the sounds of the features in the full version it seems cool.

The demo just has 15 cars or so spread out between 3 classes. You pick a class and a car and it plops you on the track with AI opponents that are really easy to beat. Like Dalamari said, the dmg in the demo is only cosmetic. There's also no in-depth customizing to be done (from what I can tell).

It's not bad, but we shall see what happens in the full version.

got a chance to play it a little bit this afternoon
first impressions:
graphics 7/10
sound 9/10
gameplay 8/10
overall 8/10
keep in mind, it is only a demo and some of the features that will be in the retail version arent present
if you're a car lover like myself, this is a must own on the 360
HUNDREDS of cars to choose from, unlimited customization (including engine swaps :), online racing and spectating
i'll wait for reviews but i think itll be a solid game

yea I hate when people wont play me in GT4 because they say it's not realistic, then turn around and play Need for Speed and doing u-turns at 90mph..

Only got back from holiday this morning, so only just downloaded this. Have played around an hour solid, using the pad for a couple of races and then onto the wireless wheel. So far, brilliant, absolutely love it. I can't quite understand people complaining about locking up the brakes with abs off, the triggers and the pedal are pressure sensitive, utilise it !!

Really looking forward to this game, it's going to be an absolute belter.

Nobody else psyched about this game ? I kind of expected a greater excitement about this demo, most places it is a hot topic !

ya, im loving the demo
the thing that's impressed me the most so far is the sound... the cars sound fantastic!
the graphics are arguably sub-par but that doesnt really matter a whole lot to me...
im more interested in how it plays... and in my opinion its alot of fun and very challenging, especially when you disable driver assists
its too bad the demo damage is only cosmetic though, cause i was really hoping to see how big crashes would affect driving performance
oh well, retail is out soon!
:smoking:

I just saw the trailer for this game in the store again, and I can't see how people say it doesn't have great graphics.

Is the demo really stripped down? When I watch the non-playable demo of the game in the store, it is absolutely incredible. It by far the best looking racing game commercially available. Everytime I see the demo, I begin considering buying a 360 right there on the spot.

The shading, the shadows, the lighting, the collisions, the shaky camera, the physics, the models, the tracks, the gameplay - everything is well beyond anything I've ever seen.

I don't understand why they would put a playable demo out that doesn't even showcase the game properly.

What they should have done was release a demo of the full game, with full collision damage, and whatever else is missing, but with only 3 cars and 2 tracks or something.

This isn't the first time I've seen demos that actually make the game look bad - which is counter-productive, and idiotic.

ya im not sure why they left so much out
but it does look as if there is absolutely no anti aliasing in the demo.. all the car models and stuff have really jagged edges... anyone else notice that?

There is supposedly 2xAA in game and 4x in the replays, but yeah, there are still a few jagged edges, but tbh, the game being what it is, a racing sim, this isn't too much of a problem. I think it looks pretty damn good anyway, plus it runs perfectly smoothly, and tbh you want to be looking where you are going most of the time.

I know they have cut out features from the demo, but it has been said that in the full game, crashes will have an effect on the car, so much so that it is possible to end up with your car crawling along with smoke pouring out of the back ! Not that i intend to make a habit of that !

The driving physics are so beautifully spot on, and without the aids (the way it should be done ;)) it is a real challenge, especially with the more powerful RWD cars. You actually have to think about weight transfer and traction all of the time, there is a real sense of inertia, it's brilliant, even more so with the wheel and pedals.

I know some people have issue with the sensitivity of the brakes and the wheels locking, apparently in the full game you will be able to change the sensitivity levels of the triggers/pedals, as i does seem that too much brake pressure is applied with too little force at times, so lets hope this is true as it will allow for even better control of the car.

Well, as you can tell, i quite like it.
