Let me start by saying that i dont know why this works but it works i can garuntee it.
now the bit i need to get out of the way

THIS IN ESSENCE IS OVERCLOCKING AND SHOULD BE UNDERTAKEN AT YOUR OWN RISK.
right now that that is out the way let me say that dont let that piece of warning put you off if you are unsure read up about it and do your homework.

right now the juicy bit i have had cs source and half life since the uk release date and have never been able to play for more than 30 minutes at a time EVER.

the other day i was floting about the via arena and came across a post"i used to have a freeze loop lock but then i started running all my radeon cards with the agp slot at 1.7v instead of the default 1.5v"

when i saw this i thaught what the hell i have tried everything else why not this. so i restarted and dived into the bios and changed the appropriate settings.
low and behold 3 days back to back gameplay i couldnt believe my luck the most i have been able to play this game since the day i got it.like i said above i have no idea why this works for me but it does might not work for all of you but if it helps a couple it solves a headache that painkillers wont touch:)

please whoever trys this post ya results back here so people who visit this post have a good ide of the usefullness of this but i assume a lot of people out there have waisted resorses and have nothing left to try i know i did so what can it hurt.

good luck people

Thanks for sharing, but I think I'll be patient and wait til Valve pull their finger out instead of modding my 6800GT :)

no man it aint a graphics card mod man you raise the voltage of the agp slot BUT when the voltage gets to the grfx card the resistors and capacitors down grade the current to the default 1.5v this is purely for the mobo and has no effect on your grfx card this i can swear on and there are plenty of tutes that will back me up man this wont touch ya grfx cardall settings are changed in the mobo bios and they only effect the mobo voltage and is safe if you stay in the 1.7v mark

well just thaught id leave an update people 4 days and not an inkling of a freeze this has definatly done the job hope you lot are having luck machine is fibne grfx card is fine all is fine and the cs kills are racking up :p

What exact problems were you having?

I have a 9600xt and experience crashes which result in me restarting the game, quite often (guranteed in Enemy Territory and UT2003).

It's to do with the VPU recover option on the card, and havn't found a fix for it.

I don't want to start messing around with things until I know it will/might help.

right it isnt down to the vpu recovery mate because that can be enabled and dissabled so you have control of its activity.
my exact problem was that 10-15 minutes into a game i would get a hard lock sometimes with looping sound in the background others without but allways need a machine restart to solv the problem.
the person i got this cure off said he allways runs this setting on radeon cards and it solved it for him like i say mate never got more than 15 minutes play till now 4 days streight and no bother atall.
try it man first time you get a crash just go to the "restor bios defaults" what can it hurt i think you may be surprised.
i have been monitering cpu case and bored tempritures and have had no problems all is normel the only thing i have to contend with now is a new hard drive cause my maxtor is nearly down and out for good.
it never rains it poors :(

Check out the forums. :)

I think the problem with my pc could be that it's overheating. It does get pretty hot after 15 hours straight gaming, lol.

have ya ever tryed running ya pc with the sides off and download somthing like motherboared moniter to check the temps while ya in windows.
radeons run pretty hot so check the temps but unless ya case temp is reacing like 50-60 degrees dont worry to much my case temps are like 40 and cpu usually steady around 45 but the heatsink on my 9800pro i cant even touch it for a couple of seconds so unless it blazing hot dont worry but i hope ya find a solution man.

here lol just read ya post again thaught you said 15 minutes not 15 hours if ya lasting 15 hours i cant see a tramendous problem good gaming man 4 hours streight and my neck needs treatment and my sight is blured lol

It's other games too.

Enemy Territory will play ok for about 5 minutes, then the vpu recover resets my gfx. I don't want to turn it off because then I'd have to restart my PC.

I can fly around in spec view, but as soon as I play it crashes.

I'll try taking the panels off and see if that works.

cheers for the tip m8, worth a try - i'll up my volts and post the results here
i'm running a 9800pro - have been crashing to desktop or restarting mid game for about 6 weeks... was fine b4 that - nothing's changed hardware wise (cept for dissabling the onboard soundcard and using a creative live to try and fix the problem....)

Cure: Buy a new $80 mobo w/ a nvidia chipset.
Problem: Fixed
Thanks to: Valve

Well it fixed my memory errors. At my expense.

For every 10 degrees your PC gets cooler, your hardware will last twice as long. If your PC is getting overheated, just buy better coolers. Or even watercooling :-p

this one worked a while longer - played for about an hour before the next soundloopingly annoying dump to desktop. I'm gonna go put a lengthy post together about the problem...
