-Attention people with really slow or old computers-

------------

So I've had this old hard drive sitting in some box for a couple years and yesterday I decided to see if it works.

Hell yes it works.

Til now I've had maybe ~3GB free space on my desktop, now I've got about 36GB.

As I was formatting I had a thought of what I would use all this extra space for.

Short story even shorter I completely uninstalled HL2 and Steam from "D:", and put it on this new one.
My logic was having HL2 and the OS on the same HD but seperate partitions was using up valuable HD needle seek time.

End result was I freed up a lot of cpu lag. After about 5 hours up donwloading updates today I fired up CS. My menu selected graphics were somehow intact, but the console commands like mat_mipmaptextures 0 and stuff like that had all been reset to default. I didn't notice until I saw some porn spray and realized I could actually see it instead of this huge blurry glob of flesh.

It wasn't so much a huge fps increase but a stability one. CS almost never lags on my end despite the graphics being a little higher than before. My ping is stable and I was able to keep a decent framerate whe my ping hit over 300 because Windows firewall decided it should start blocking HL2 midgame.

Cliff Notes: CS:S on different HD than OS = success.

Try not to barf on your monitor.
That's creepy. I "barfed" about 12 times last night... and I'm still trying to hold it down. How did you know that?

Apparently, running this setup may alter ones consciousness to a higher level of awareness.

Forgot to mention I changed mouse sense from 1.2 to 2.0, and it's the shizite.

Those screenshots look like a .JPG of a long piece of shit and then made into "textures" by the developers as an April Fools Day joke.

Counter-Strike Source for PSP?

EDIT: PSP can do better than that. Let me re-prahse: Counter Strike Source for the DS?

He was making fun of the texture detail this guy used to play at. See post #2.

Wow. Those before pics belong in a museum.

Yeah, Along with his PC belong to The Art Museum of 4X AGP and modern JIGGAWHUTs

Seriously you played CSS like that?

I've got an xp 1700+, 9700 pro, 1 gig of ram with steam on my windows HD and had graphics at a higher level than you and it played fine.

I'll turn up some graphics tomorrow and see what happens.

But his is a pentium 3.

I'm quite surprised actually. I thought the minimum spec was a 1.2 GHz CPU for any game on the Source engine? I know it's off by less than 100 MHz but usually playing MP is out of the question with a CPU around the minimum spec. I guess the graphics card makes up for the loss though.

Prepare to be more impressed.
I turned up graphics from all low, to textures mid, shades high, and trilinear filtering with almost no fps hit. :D

Pics in a sec.

Success!

:DDD

I'll hit up some anti-aliasing next match.
---
Anti-aliasing isn't recommended so I turned shadows to high. Looks damn fine.
---
Models now on medium.
---
HDR on "Bloom".
---
HDR on full
---
Turned resolution from 800x600 to 1024x768, still running smooth.

Ahah I just noticed in this pic it looks like the one guy is holding a miniature T. xD

eh dont you get some fps spikes which will hinder your gameplay

I didn't get any until I boosted the resolution but even now it's not often enough to matter.

---
I put the textures on high and it was still playable, but it spiked pretty much everytime I was fired at.
---
Trying out anti-alias 2x.

:D This thread makes me really happy for some reason :D

Uhh, moving CS to a different partition or HD won't make too much of a difference. THe big performance increase your seeing is all the crap thats cluttering your OS is gone and the game now runs on a clean defraged HD.

It makes a huge difference in hard drive seek time.

Whoops, almost forgot. I'm gonna try out Lost Coast. I didn't DL it before because I thought it was out of my graphical league.
