Now that the 2008 election is over, reporters are spilling all the juciest, and previously off the record, gossip from the campaign trail. Much of it is about the infighting between Palin and McCain's staff, as Newsweek's treasure trove of post-election gossip reveals.

However, perhaps one of the most astounding and previously unknown tidbits about Sarah Palin has to do with her already dubious grasp of geography. According to Fox News Chief Political Correspondent Carl Cameron, there was great concern within the McCain campaign that Palin lacked "a degree of knowledgeability necessary to be a running mate, a vice president, a heartbeat away from the presidency," in part because she didn't know which countries were in NAFTA, and she "didn't understand that Africa was a continent, rather than a series, a country just in itself."

Palin was apparently a nightmare for her campaign staff to deal with. She refused preparation help for her interview with Katie Couric and then blamed her staff, specifically Nicole Wallace, when the interview was panned as a disaster. After the Couric interview, Fox News reported, Palin turned nasty with her staff and began to accuse them of mishandling her. Palin would view press clippings of herself in the morning and throw "tantrums" over the negative coverage. There were times when she would be so nasty and angry that her staff was reduced to tears.

all those of you who voted mccain ..wtf were you thinking? (well obviously you were not ),

I figured this was going on.

I am truly amazed at her not knowing the countries involved in NAFTA and the whole African Continent thing. It just... boggles my mind.

I feel sorry for McCain's campaign staff. That's what happens when you pick a running-mate you've only spoken to ever twice.

especially since one of the 3 countries in NAFTA is the US ..she couldnt have guessed the other two? who else could it be? ...alaska?

Hahaha. Nice. I don't know how the Republicans will reconcile this and I am very happy about that.

Nice comment about the one guy sticking up for her because he didn't like the way everyone was "nailing her." Brilliant reporting. :p

LOL@O'Reilly trying to conjure up a positive spin on those facts on the fly

But encouragingly it sounds like the McCain campaign are trying to take a shit on Palin atm. They don't want her hickish stupidity to be the 4-year destiny of the party.

Edit:
McCain was dumbfounded when Congressman John Lewis, a civil-rights hero, issued a press release comparing McCain with former Alabama Gov. George Wallace, a segregationist infamous for stirring racial fears. McCain had devoted a chapter to Lewis in one of his books, "Why Courage Matters" and had so admired Lewis that he had once taken his children to meet him.
Hahahahaha pwnt.
Obama said:
So when Brian Williams is asking me about what's a personal thing that you've done [that's green], and I say, you know, 'Well, I planted a bunch of trees.' And he says, 'I'm talking about personal.' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f---ing changed light bulbs in my house. It's because of something collective'."
These Newsweek things are great.

I hope America never allows such ignorance near office again.

But thats probably wishful thinking.

She's accurate, he needs more liver spots.

She was the worst joke ever. Hockey mom with nuculear weapons. Thank God almighty they failed. Rapture must wait.

rofl
The Republican Party is going to tear itself apart cause of this loss. Fingers will be pointed in every direction. Have at it, boys and girls. :)

The GOP is auditing her purhcases. AWESOME. Poor Tod will have to give back all of that Red Man and Jack Daniels he bought, along with his camo vests and matching camo luggage. ;(

newsweek:

-- Palin's shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain's top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family?clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill. Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent ?tens of thousands? more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide ? said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.?

Basically the same as the previously linked Bill O'RLY clip, this time with Carl Cameron and another Fox anchor:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWZHTJsR4BcThe reason this clip is significant is because the Fox anchor is very noticeably less forgiving than O'Reilly in his assessment on Palin's situation, even going so far as to correct Cameron about the trigger for Obama's gain in momentum (ie. Cameron cites the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy, the anchor suggests the Couric interview with Palin).

He's almost certainly been briefed to take this line. This looks to me to be nothing less than a statement of intent from Rupert Murdoch; he and his media sockpuppets won't be supporting Palin in the event of a big ideological schism in the GOP. Consider how scared Tony Blair was of The Sun newspaper in Britain and you'll get an idea of the significance of this.

Cambridge dictionary disagrees and that's the one I'm going with.

Oh man, word arguments crack me up.

On one hand, by definition, it isn't a word.

On the other, someone could use it in a sentence, and you would know what it means.

Sounds like a word to me.

Then again, I am American. And as such, am allowed to bastardize English as I see fit.

You guys are the bastardizingest country when it comes to languageability!

I'm sorry, knowledgeability just isn't a cromulent word.

Let's embiggen ourselves by returning to topic, since this debate is much adieu about nothing.

Africa is indeed a consonant, stupid palinidiocy

...as we Repubs now relaxedly repose in reflective-awe of Biden's lofty intellect.

If he really was that dumb you'd have funny stories to post like we do, instead of just posting all butthurt.

sounds like a good representation of the average hick though.

Now it's funny, few weeks ago it was a nightmare for people like me.

QFT.

I must admit judging by the fast turnabout by Fox it seems like Murdoch intends to bury Palin completely.

I can laugh at her not knowing about Africa.
But her spending spree just pisses me off.

unozero, that was posted on the first page.

LOL CONSPIRACY BY MURDOCH

Man that's Shepard Smith. He's one of those on Fox News who will ask tough questions to EVERYBODY. It's not Murdoch doing anything, that's just the way Shep Smith is always on the air.

No idea who that guy is, I assumed he was just your average teleprompter peon. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on that one. Still, if you think the idea that Murdoch's media outlets reflect his political desires is a 'conspiracy' theory then you need a severe reality adjustment.

So when Fox reports bad things about people we hate, they're not lying pieces of shit anymore?

That's not an unfair point. The thing is, Fox is about as partisan as you can get while still being incredibly mainstream, so trying to figure out the truth content of any particular newspiece is more of a judgement call than it is with most other sources. That's why people will instantly come down hard on any ostensibly pro-conservative news from them - because they are after all blatantly pro-conservative.

This news is different, because it's about Republican in-fighting. Personally I don't find any of those claims about Palin to be farfetched... Nevertheless, I find the fact that Fox is the source for much of this stuff to be less revealing of Palin and more revealing of which side Fox will be backing in the event of a split.

Edit: Palin claims the Africa stuff to have been stated by a "small, evidently bitter type of person." That says to me that the Africa story is at most a distortion and not a complete fabrication. I still suspect it to be 100% true.

Republicans stabbing each other in the back with preemptive strikes for 2012.

If Palin didn't know what the Bush doctrine was before, she will by the end of all this...
