Hey guys,

I got a new evga 6800 and when playing CSS I get decent framerates (avg 30 fps on dust2) but I expected more. I'm running everything on low and my cpu speed is 2.4 (intel p4). So I was wondering if this was what I should expect or if I should fool around with my settings.

Lol.

Your cpu buddy, it's bottlenecking your video card.

It's as Asus once put it, "like trying to run a hose through a sprinkler head. You're only going to get as much output as the sprinkler allows, despite the fact that the hose can do allot more".

Ok, so I put the quote in my own words, big deal.

hmmm i have same problem avg 30 fps i too have P4 2.4 GHz but i have 9800PRO it seems if i dont run the game on highest settings i get a double perf decrease, if i put it on DX7 and at low settings i get worse fps than on DX9 at all highest, tis very weired.

I shouldnt think a 2.4 would slow it down that bad. At the moment i run CSS all on high 1024x768, no AA, trilinear. And i average 50-60FPS. And i only have a 9800SE with 2.66GHz Pentium 4.

If I can run HL2/CS:S on my laptop with a IGP 345M (DX7) and 2.66 GHz P4 and get around 20-25 FPS...you should be able to push A LOT more with a 6800. Push the 6800 to GT speeds and if I'm right the 6800 has "locked" pipelines, google it and see if you can find a way to unlock those extra pipelines, they make a difference. I would also OC the CPU a lil more like to 2.5Ghz

Found a link, go here and unlock that 6800 darn it!!! lol

Thanks, I tried unlocking the pipes when I first got the card but I had artifacts. I had a feeling it was the CPU so I might have to upgrade that as well. Thanks for the help. Any other suggestions would be welcome.

What is the amount of memory you have and what's the speed? CPU probably has a lot to do with it though.

P4 at 2.4 GHz
1 GB RAM (don't know what kind, I'll have to look when I get home)

Apparently the 6800 unlock hardly ever goes smoothly- not like the X800Pro VIVO.

i have the same damn problem, my mates pc is worse then mine and he runs everything on full and gets average 100 fps, im only getting 30-100, goes up and down all over the damn place.

Holy crap m8, thats the ugliest pc case I ever saw man (your sig)...

Yeah, when I tried unlocking it I had the newest drivers. And yeah, I reformatted when installing. At first the fps was fine, it was only recently when it dropped. I think maybe it's the new Nvidia drivers but I'm not sure. On the vid stress test the avg is 54 but I never hit 54 in-game. Anyway, starting yesterday I've had boxes where light is supposed to come from.

Anybody know what's causing this? This is all very frustrating. It might be from the network adapter and mouse since after I installed those I had that problem, but it seems unlikely.

I got the same specs as you...same problem thats why Im buying a nu rig soon

What about RAM, you gotta have at least 1G of RAM, 512MB still ain't enough, to be able to play Source game smoothly. And I forgot to mention, Hyperthreading or the ability to run multi tasks is also essential. My comp's spec 2.4Ghz P4 with HT, 512MB RAM, 64MB Intel Extreme Graphic 2 (I know, it came with my rig) and get a decent 50FPS in dust2, otherwise to the lowest graphic - 80FPS. :)

I have enough RAM, the most irritating this is that before recently my FPS was fine. I have no idea what happened. I opened up my case and everything was fine.

lol i got a :

Intel Celeron 2.5ghz CPU
768mb DDR Ram
X700 agp 256mb

I get about 10 - 40 avg

I have been told numerous times that i should be getting a much better fps then that and that my crappy celeron is bottlenecking it, so im getting a new mobo and an amd athlon 3200+ and 1gb ram :)

That case is the most beautiful case I've seen in my life. Everyone at the lan I go to asks if it's an Alienware. But you are entitled to your opinion. What does your case look like??
