Frank Darabont hates Blade Runner Voice Over

Haha. The narration was pretty awful, thankfully removed in the Director's Cut.

Good god that's awful. Gonna continue not having seen it. Harrison Ford isn't exactly the master of exciting voice tone.

meh point or no point shawshank redemption is a cliche ridden turd. there I said it

still prefer the voice narration ONLY because it suits the film noir aspect of it

And fixed the stupid clear blue sky next to a factory cut when the dove takes off in the Final Cut.

I will admit that the Ford's acting in the film is quite dry, the voice over is worse than his actual acting in the film. He intentionally made the VO as bad as he could because he thought the film shouldn't have had one and tried to make a VO so bad they wouldn't dare use it. His efforts failed but the more recent re-edits remove the VO.

Yeah the studio did the narration order and did it at the last second. You gotta understand what they had at that time. I mean you had The Exorcist, The Thing, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, etc. Every film Ford was in he was some tough guy kicking butt. In Blade Runner he was a drunk in a trashy futuristic world, being a sexual pervert in dressing rooms, was weak at fighting (well he tried to fight the Terminator essentially, lol) and got his ass kicked a lot in the film. So much so that Ford pitied his character. The studio critics were just scared that the general audience would not know what was happening at the time because Blade Runner made people have emotions and think! The studio critics acted like they had to guide the audience through everything.

I prefer both for some reason. My father recorded a version on a beta tape way back in the day that was the narration version and was the first one that I saw. Something about the sadness in his voice with no emotion just makes you feel more sad for the character and the world he lives in. On the other hand though with no narration it's like watching Blade Runner just the way it is.

Hool, there's absolutely no relation to the things you're saying in that post. "Made people have emotions" - what? Anyway. I've never seen it with the voice over, this video being by first exposure to it. Right off the bat I can tell it's unnecessary and cumbersome, and Darabont is right - it's a kick in the nuts to the whole scene.

Luckily I've never seen the voice-over version. I imagine it's the same for most people my age and younger.

The critics were afraid the audience wouldn't care that the Terminator essentially died they thought.

are you at all familiar with the term "film noir"? how about "hardboiled" crime fiction?

Sophistication is not within Hool's reach, Stern.

The critics were afraid the audience wouldn't care that the Terminator essentially died they thought.

So the critics now, not the studio?

Can you imagine if Roy had died like this?
