Yea we will see if you can download 3gigs in one day while a thousand other ppl try to also. And i want SE and a box to hold on too.
 
Steam is more like 0-day shipping. You start preloading "well before" (quote from Valve) the game hits the shelves. If/when you finish the download in time you can start playing HL2 a few minutes after Valve unlocks it. To play it nearly that fast you would have to camp outside the store with your computer, run in ASAP, buy a copy with cash (make sure you have exact change ready), run back to your computer (sitting right outside the store or in your car), then go through the 2-3GB installation.

As soon as I hear they are preloading HL2 I'm going to get it through Steam... unless the versions on Steam don't come with any of the Source ports.
 
Steam will be so bogged down when HL2 comes out it won't even be funny. Maybe VALVe will give Steam buyers dedicated content servers for a week or two.. I don't know, I'd rather have the box and manual anyway :)
 
Remember, they know not to underestimate the demand to be put on Steam again... and they hired the guy that invented BitTorrent several months ago to help with Steam. I think they will be prepared for the distribution of HL2.
 
i think ill order it from buy.com...its 45 bucks plus the place it ships from is in my same city...i ordered my z640s from there and it arrived 2 days after ordering ;)

I don't have that much to spend on a game :|

Anyhow, on retrospect, I should be getting the game the same time it's unlocked on Steam.

If HL2 is unlocked on Steam on the day it's available at retail stores, that is. I've preordered games in the past, some with 1 day shipping. When it ships from the warehouse, it's the same time it ships TO retailers. Therefore, it should arrive at my house the same day it's available in stores.

I have had this happen (shipping the day before it's available at retail stores officially) with EVERY game I've ever preordered on ebgames. I hope this trend remains for HL2.. :)
 
Well it expires at 2pm today so people hop on it or don't do it at all.

Well it's only $10 more here in Vancouver at my local EB ($49 for reg, $59 for CE)

ya where is collectors edition on there? nm found it also is it possible to cancel orders after you already pre order them?

I'll buy over Steam if Collectors Edition doesn't arrive to Denmark, heck i'll probably do it anyways, just to get it when it's released in the us.
 
:dozey: How about we all take our lazy fat asses, walk to our local game retailer, if it is far then drive, but make sure we park far away. Purchase the game walk back out. Go home. Get sweaty from the excitement, we've lost weight, good. Play some Half Life 2, sweat from intense gaming... Baley eat your heart out, Half Life 2 is the new weigh loss program.
 
Im gonna wait a year or so, from the release date to buy it cause then it will be cheaper.
