Fileplanet has the game up for download.

Ad-supported of course, this is probably like the free ad-supported games they had last year.

But, I don't care... I've actually REALLY been wanting to play this for awhile.

Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy and enjoy this violent run and gun action game featuring a host of amazing psychic abilities for FREE! This is the entire PC version of the game ad supported to make it a 100% free game.

Trailer.

Oh my God oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god it's on pc?

**** YES YOU ARE THE BEST 3RD PERSON SHOOTER/ACTION GAME/OMG EVER. Psychonauts has NOTHING on this game.

Edit: Yes, I realize they are totally different games, somewhat similar to each other concerning the subject matter. Psi-Ops was much more compelling in the use of the powers imo.

...did you just insult Psychonauts?

...

...

...

...don't sleep tonight. I'm going to hunt you down and slit your throat from ear to ear.

What the **** according to avast this has a god damn virus in it.
wtf.jpg

How the shit, I've never downloaded anything from Fileplanet that had a virus in it before.
I mean, I know they said that this shit ad supported, but going so slow as to planting a trojan in the game that only activates after you double click the executable it puts on your desktop?!

FOR SHAME, FILEPLANET... FOR SHAME!

Wow, talk about over reacting. Its a few ad's that your software is picking up as a virus. Calm down.

Well, this is the first time avast has picked up anything resembling a virus in over a year.

Steam was picked up as a virus by avg or whatever a while back.

I've seen an example of Avast giving false positives and calling them Junkpoly[Cryp] in other situations. This is very likely another FP. Use a better AV.

Avast! also has a tendency to warn about key generators containing virus when, in fact, they don't (most of the time at least).

Meh, this is the first time it's ever said anything about viruses for in quite some time.
Better safe than sorry.

True, but if you went through the trouble of dl'ing the game it's worth getting a second opinion from, say, an online scan before you give up on it totally. Just to give you an idea, this AV-Comparatives report (beware, PDF) from 31st May shows that Avast detects Junkpoly[Cryp] in Adobe Premier Package too. I think it's more to do with detecting data that's packed in a similar way to some examples of malware - which isn't surprising in a game that's self-confessedly ad-supported - rather than detecting any actual malicious software.

I've heard good things about PsiOps and might try this myself.

Could someone who has installed this give a heads up on how the ads are presented? I don't want pictures of Big Macs flashed in my face in the middle of a gunfight.

Alright, well I'm redownloading it.
Thanks for the reconciling.

I'm just paranoid as all hell when it comes to this stuff.

I have this for the original Xbox and love it. Great sleeper hit.

Once you've got it dl'ed again, if you want to doublecheck with another AV without having to pay for one you could always see what AVG says, or you could try Kaspersky's online scan (very thorough and reliable, but it will only highlight threats, not clean them, and it takes ages if you don't limit the scan to just key locations).

Edit: Found this at Kaspersky's site too - you can submit a single file to be scanned, but I don't know if it's relevant in this case.

I'm downloading the free basic version of AVG, does it allow you to right click directories and the like to scan single items?

I haven't used it in a while but as far as I remember it does.

Alright, well, that's good then.
Much obliged.

Carry on with the discussion of the game.

AVG. yeah. it's blazing fast - leave the scanner minimized if you will be scanning other things later, or aren't playing a game or something, then you don't have to wait for the whole thing to launch every time you scan something.. you right click - hit scan, and it can be done scanning almost instantly, depending on the size of file/s.

waiting for opinion. is the game good? are the adds annoying?

This needs a sequel so ****ing bad. I could see how most of the powers would be used on the Wii. Lift and thrust for TK. Do a sort of swing to throw a wall of fire for PK. Hold your hand out to make heads explode with Mind Drain/Mind Control. **** yeah. Too bad it's probably never gonna happen. :(

Just to throw it out there, making an enemy turn his own gun to his head with Mind Control is the best feature ever featured in a feature length game featuring telekinetic powers as the feature. FEEATUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRES.

...That sounds f*cking awesome.

God, I hope this isn't a shitty console port.

Is there any other place to download this? Mines only downloading from FP at about 180KB/s, half normal speed.

if i had the speed some of you guys have, I would have the internet. I'm feeling great if i get 38kbps or more from file planet. that probably explains why my computer has been on for a year.

My max download is like 80kbps. I hate you all. ;___;

Except Virustype, of course.

Downloading it myself right now. Never heard of it before, sounds like it was a sleeper.

Totally massive. It's in the same boat as Second Sight and Psychonauts, which coincidentally are also about psychic powers. They all need sequels of some sort. I need a new battery charger for my laptop ASAP for this.

Alright, I'm taking my chances now... disabled avast, going to run the game.

I swear to God if my computer gets raped with adware and all that shit... I'll be pissed.

edit : Game's fun, very much a console port though.
Psychic controls are fine though, but 3rd person movement on a PC game can be pretty finicky unless done right.(Star Wars Battlefront, Max Payne)

Also, I don't see ANY advertisements at all.
Fairly suspicious.

edit x2 : :p VT2, anyways, there's a single ad when you exit the game. A minor nuisance really.

And that was the last time we heard from xlucidx

It is actually, it's very fun to play, and the controls handle well. The story and cut scenes can be a bit chintzy sometimes though, but it still is a very good game.

Ah, I remember this game, it was an old, old Xbox game. Added spyware you say? Principal violation.

**** this, this game is ****ing rigged.

As soon as I installed and played it all of a sudden my desktop screen randomly opens up and AVG has been going ape shit over it.

****ing Fileplanet.

I remember OnlineArmor that I downloaded from the publisher website scanned positive for a trojan. Downloaded again about a week later and it was fine this time. Could have been a problem with AVG that was fixed in a patch or the file itself that was tampered with. Websites do get hacked.

I got the free Firewall, and you got the free game. Never underestimate what people will do for money. Especially when they are giving you something for 'free'

that said - it's probably nothing. You may just have to disable your A/V to play it, or give it permissions

nod32 isn't saying anything =/

Well, all day AVG's been saying I've got trojans and shit up the ass.

It's annoying.

You can't really rely on any free AV tbh. Get what you pay for.
