No this isn't a joke and I'm not selling anything, amazon is allowing plenty of free albums to be had by not so famous artists but if you sift through some you'll find some really good gems.
Right now I'm downloading my 4th album in about a 10 minute period and the music is great!
some are cheap too, look at Vampire Weekend's newest album!
it also syncs with your itunes so you can hear them right after they download. check it out, bros
