From Slashdot:
Opera Software ASA is celebrating 10-year anniversary of its browser. As a surprise party favor they're giving away free registration codes (for as long as the party lasts). Also see photos from the party, listen to music by employees, play games and more.

For one day only, you can get an ad-free version of Opera. Simply e-mail [email protected] to obtain a registration code. This offer is valid from 12 a.m. Tuesday, August 30 to 12 a.m. Wednesday, August 31 2005 (PDT)

You can get your free serial here! You just need to put your email address into the form and click submit. Enjoy

Edit: Oops.. just realised this should be in Hardware & Software. Any mods want to move it?

BALATNET ADVERTISING FIREFOX FOR THE WIN ALERT THE INTERNET AND RING THE CARE POLICE.

Does anyone use opera, I thought it was free anyway?

I dont know.. I use firefox but I might give opera a try now I've got a free serial. Its kinda free normally, as in you can get a free copy, but its got ads built in. This serial removes them for you.

I think I might force myself to switch. This really seems worth it.

Thanks f0rked.

Well, I'm just trying it out right now. So far, it seems more responsive than Firefox, and it also seems to handle tabbed browsing better (links opening new windows will automatically open in a new tab, instead of a new window), plus, if you download the latest technical preview here, you get a built in Bittorrent downloader. Also, the user interface just seems.. better than Firefox. Could just be a first impression or indiviual preference, but to me it seems pretty cool. I think I'll hold onto Opera for now.

I really like Opera, but I prefer firefox. It's more.. flexible
And why not just use an illegitimate key.. it'd be easier
And they only take like two minutes to find on google

I've got my key, so I think I'll try Opera at some point...

Got my key this morning. Haven't used Firefox yet, supposedly its better. I'm too lazy to adapt to Firefox; besides I have no probs with Opera at the moment.

Yeah, I used to have that extention. Until one day one of my extensions had some problem with one of the others that was installed and continually froze my firefox. Ended up just uninstalling them all.

I have to say though I like the amount of features packed into Opera as standard. I'll have to give it a while before I can say for definite if I like it more than firefox or not though.

so when do u get the key...I put my email in and it just brought me to this page...its not in my gmail yet..

They dont mail you the key, it should be on the page after you click submit. At least it was for me. You could probably give them a fake email for all it matters.

WTF? I put my real email adress in (gmail) and I just got empty boxes where the codes should be, I put a fake email in and I see the codes...weird.

Probably because the server will be under a huge load at the moment.. I mean it did get linked to on the front page of slashdot. I'm suprised its still up lol.

Hmm...i now have a registered opera....hey if I get a serial today but I dont use it till a couple weeks can u still do that...or can u only register today..

I think they'll probably be fine to register with in a couple of weeks time. I've got one saved for when I get my Apple machine. I hear Opera (or firefox for that matter) is better than the standard Safari.

Opera is really nice. The only thing I've had to complain about really with Opera is:
1. Ads or you have to pay for it (this serial of course gets by that one)
2. Not as compatible as Firefox or EI with all sites.

Opera is a very nice browser.
It dosn't have the extensions of Firefox, but it still has a very nice interface, secure, and an overall very good browser.

Either one is a very very good alternative to IE.

Just found a really cool feature. Anyone using opera to browse with a few tabs open right now, hold down the right click on your mouse and scroll the wheel. Sort of like alt-tab for opera tabs :D

i just started using opera a couple weeks ago after IE went ballistic on me and i've really enjoyed it, the tab browsing is far better than Firefox, but I have had trouble with some sites, notably apple.com/trailers, but beyond that it's been thoroughly enjoyable, thanks for this though, it's nice to have those ads gone

This forum looks weird in oprah....whats really better about opera than firefox...

I have always used Opera- i like it. Im not saying its better or worse than others, it's just what i use.
Thanks alot forked- NO MORE BANNER!!! WOOHOO

It's a hassle to have to use the mouse to do that though.
