Freezes on loading - All Orange Box Games

Every time a loading screen comes up, whether its first loading a game, or the loading at autosave areas/new levels, it freezes.

I heard it might be the paged pool size thing, and its not. Tried that.

Any suggestions? Got retail copy, not steam.

I've got a Pentium D 2.66ghz, XFX 8600 GT XXX, Seagate 250gb, Biostar P4M890-M7 SE mobo, and 2 x 1gb DDR2 533mhz Transcend ram. 64x Windows XP.

As in I went and bought it, instead of downloaded off Steam.

Still, any ideas?

Ah ok. Now i can help you
Try veryfing GCF files. Right click on game at Steam window>properties>Local files tab>Verify integry of....

Did that, everything checks out. Now what?

Retail hmm.
Have you checked console to see if has an error stating why it can't save, or there is no folder in which it saves?

Are you able to use the main menu save option?

Otherwise, me thinks you should just turn off Autosave, and just normally save if you can.

It saves fine, it just can't load anything. I can't check the console, because the program freezes. Locks up completely.
