freezing problem

I am having freezing problems with hl2. Most of the time it freezes the screen for a few secs every minute or so. I gets very annoying. Anyone know what might cause this problem?

I got a 3400 AMD, 1 gig ram, 6800gt card with the latest nvidia driver. Further i get no freezing problems with other games which require high demand of the videocard so i dont think it might be any overheating.
