im new to the forums but i have been having some problems with my half life 2 game. i noticed that there are some other threads on here with people who are having similiar problems. my game will freeze up a bit here and there and the sound will repeat and half the time after about a second or so it will stop and i will be able to play regulary again but the other half of the time it will stop working completely and then a window will come up which says "hl2 stopped working" or something like that. i know there are a bunch of threads like this but i didnt notice anyone else post what happens to me after that. after it stops working i will get a message which says this:

Problem caused by Half-Life 2 Game Engine

This problem was caused by Half-Life 2 Game Engine. Half-Life 2 Game Engine was created by Valve Corporation.

Microsoft has been unable to contact the manufacturer and has no further information available at this time.

under that it has a link to the valve website. Now please understand that i dont understand computers very well so if the problem is a complicted computer thing please keep my computer illiteracy in mind when explaining.

I noticed that many people posted their specs when they have problems but i really do not know where to find that info(or understand what half of it means). i searched around on my computer and found this:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz 2.39 GHz
RAM: 2046 MB
and i am running windows vista

if you could tell me where to look i could get the rest of the specs if it will help you help me. anyway thanks to anyone who can help me i really appreciate it :)

right click on the desktop then scroll down to click properties. once in properties click the settings tab. in the settings tab you will see this "Display:" under that will be the video card you have. come back with that info.
im not sure if windows vista is different because i dont use it.

nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS

edit: what the heck. it appears that there are two copies of this thread i made unless im seeing things

It may be that Vista is screwing things up. If it is, it's a known problem.

I find it odd that it says "Half-Life 2 Game Engine" as opposed to Source, but I don't know every error in the world so meh.

yup drivers are still being worked on for the 8xxx series. i recommend trying a different driver. there is really not much more to help you.
