I'm thinking of switching to Windows Media Player, just for an interface change, and just to see the other side of things.

Now, being a long time iTunes user, I have no idea where to start transfering my library of 2+GB of music.

I was thinking of just making a playlist/TXT file that points to my already existing music filetrees, and then trying to import that into WMP. I really like my filetree organisation i've got going with my music right now, and don't want to have to try and change it.

So, ideas from those who use WMP?

you should be able to just go into wmp library and when it asks for locations to look for files just add my music > itunes or where ever; things like ratings won't carry across though.

.. but i don't fully understand what you're asking for with your file tree organisation, thing. :x

Well, the way I have iTunes organising files, is it creates a new folder named after an artist, then in that folder, a folder for each album by said artist, and all the appropriate songs go in the appropriate folder.

I'm not too sure if WMP will take to this kindly. Like, will it beable to just search through the whole ****ing folder that all these little nested folders are in, and pull EVERY single song out?

EDIT: NVM, I figured it out :P

Ok, now i'm trying to figure out the benefits of using WMP over iTunes. I'm kinda missing how easy it was to organise songs in iTunes.

Hmm, i'm liking how much better the mini player is for this.

The iTunes one was a crappy ripoff of the WMP one. It's exactly the same, just uses space not as well.

EDIT: WOW! I'm really liking how much less ram WMP uses over iTunes.

Hmm, I might just end up using iTunes just for synching up my iPod.

Anybody know how I can just use WMP, and have it keep my existing file tree system?

i tried iTunes but i didnt like it, windows media player has the best music library for me. its the only thing microsoft can do. they should quit the shoddy OS business and take over the world using great overpriced media players....

screw folders, add all your files to your media library then use the artist and album names fo find your songs. everyone wins. no micromanagement. add your itunes music folder in WMP and it searches and adds all your music files.

Yeah, i've been doing that.

It's WAY easier to find songs that way. iTunes, you have to know what you're looking for, who it's by, and then you have to go in alphabetical order through that tiny ass window to find it.

AUGH!!!

I'm loving WMP! If only they could get iPod support integrated, and also have a filetree system as sexy as iTunes'.

Or you could just use the rather good Search feature in itunes.
I didnt like itunes reorganising my files, tis screwed everything up. because it worked in id tags... and i thought it'd sort out id tags with their database or something, but it doesnt.
I know have a gig of UNKNOWN ARTIST/UNKNOWN ALBUM/ songs that were previously in the correct folders etc... the tags were just wrong. rawr.

i turned off the auto-organising feature in itunes, it was ruining my organisation, i'd have albums ripped apart and in different artist folders and so on, it was ugly.
