frooze at fuzzy screen

i just bought hl2 and the install went fine but when i go to play the game it freezes at the fuzzy screen that says loading it the bottom right corner :angry: , if anyone can help with this i would be eternally grateful as i've been waiting for this game for 2 years.

I don't know if this will work, but you can give it a try: Steam, Play Games, Right Click Half-Life 2, Properties, Delete Local Game Content. Reboot Computer launch Game check start Game when ready to play. Good luck.

anyways, try going to the game launch options (play games, right click hl2, properties, lauch options) and adding "-console" to it.

Wait for the screen to load up, where you'll see the word halflife2 in the background, and the menu options (it might take a while to load), then when it's loaded, to fix the fuziness (if its what i think it is), go to options, video, and change the resolution to the same resolution as your screen is.

That fixes the screen fuziness/shaking for me anyway

thanks for the help every one adding the console finally got me to the menu screen. when i went to play i got a memory error but fortunately someone told me how to fix. am playing fine now and enjoying very much. in case anyone else comes up with a memory could not be read message the fix that worked for me was to paste this into the taget area under proporteis on the desktop icon +mat_forcehardwaresync o +snd_async_ prefetch_priority1 this gets pasted after what is already in the target area. dont forget to put a space first.
