noob reporting for duty.

after 2 days of trying to install just STEAM, I finally got it going, and was hoping to enjoy THE BEST GAME EVER.

wait for it..

I went to launch HL2, but there was an error, saying it couldn't find/load

c:\program files\steam\steamapps \counter-strike source\bin\filesystem_steam.dll

so: what's the deal, because I'm about ready to give it up.. the game was a birthday gift, and I was really looking forward to getting into it..

any help?

no, sorry.. that's from a forum I saw earlier... this is the message I get:

UNABLE TO LOAD c:\programe files\steam\steamapps\gustusbear\half-life 2\bin\filesystem_steam.dll

Validate game cache.

Done by right-clicking game in Steam, picking Properties, Local Files and Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

Three mistakes;

  1. You told everyone you wouldn't help him.
  2. You said it was because he spammed, when apparently he's new and you've spammed worse.
  3. You said it in a spam message yourself.

Him triple posting TWICE seems to be more spamming than I have done. Your also telling me new people have the right to spam? What a joke.

holy f*ck. just looking for a little help here, guys.. can I get it or not, yes or no? if it's no, it's no, but cut a noob some slack as far as protocol on the forum is concerned.

Stop spamming Xendance.

Noob, what are your specs?

Are ALL of your drivers up to date? Graphics card, mobo, sound card, directX etc. Have you correctly uninstalled the old drivers BEFORE you installed the new ones?

Pentium DUO-CORE 2.8GHZ, 1.5GB RAM, 512MB Radeon and space up the wazoo.. Direct X 9.. far as I know I'm up to date, drivers-wise... I'd really appreciate any assistance.. feel free to email me at [email protected] ..

System checks out (you'd be surprised how many pages get filled trying to solve a problem, then it turns out that their PC just doesn't even come CLOSE to meeting requirements to run the game.)

"As far as I know" isn't good enough for drivers. You need to CHECK. If you don't know HOW to check, then I'd say they would LIKELY be out of date. Also, the old drivers MUST be removed correctly BEFORE the new ones are installed.

fair enough.. my system was JUST built in January.. I KNOW the video drivers are up to code, the sound card is built-in, and I DID install them, although maybe I could do a re-install.. I'll try that.. thnx!

January is four months ago - almost five. And that's IF the drivers installed at the time were up to date, and not from the CD. Also, on-board sound STILL has drivers, likely Realtek AC97 or HD. What about motherboard drivers - Dual cores can be twitchy; I have one. Before you re-install (if you do), find out EXACTLY what hardware you have, and download ALL the drivers from their websites - even if you THINK it might be the same version you have on disk, because it probably isn't. Same with DirectX.

The drivers is just an idea as to your problem, and may not solve it. It is often the culprit though, and is a good place to start. You shouldn't need to do a complete re-format though, unless you want to.

brilliant.. a place to start at very least. I'll be back regardless, to let you know if it worked.. cheers.
