I was hoping somebody here might be able to help me out with this.

As of today, for a reason I cannot fathom, my Counter-Strike Source runs slowly. By that, I mean there is nothing wrong with the frame-rate or anything - the frame-rate is fine. But everything happens at about 75% of the speed it should. Even the round freeze timer at the start counts longer now than in seconds.

In local servers with bots the game is as described above, but obviously the problem is more complex on servers with other human players. I gave it a try, and of course the match runs at normal speed, but, from my point of view, is still slow. Consequently it lags and jumps ridiculously.

This is pissing me off. It was fine yesterday and I can't work out what I've done since then, besides download a Norton Internet Security update. That seemed to be no more than routine, though.

So put simply, my games run in slow motion. Apart from one thing - looking around with the mouse is at normal speed.

Anybody have any idea how to return the game to normal? :(

Edit - aw, shit. This is affecting all my Steam games, not just CS:S. Well. HL2. For some reason this feels like a Source-game problem, so I doubt it affects HL1. Might try later.

Huh, the only thing that I can think of is for some reason your cpu might be underclocked.
what are your computer specifications?
Also, do you have a program like SpeedXP, which speeds up computer use? Make sure one isn't running and is slowing down your computer, instead of the opposite.

I'm running Windows XP Media Center Edition, on an Intel Pentium 4 CPU with 3.20GHz, 2GB of RAM.

I have two hard disk drives, the primary with 49.6GB free space, the other with 134GB free space. I recently updated my Radeon X600 drivers, but that was last week; it was working fine since that time.

Everything was working perfectly until yesterday. I had made no significant changes, as far as I can tell. I am now re-installing CS:S, I'll see if it works. It's really strange!

Interestingly the game now runs at proper speed, after a re-install. I've no idea what the problem was.

Thanks for your suggestions though. :)

Haha, that's strange. I was going to suggest checking what your "timescale" command was set to. Sometimes that does goofy things to the Source engine.

source games often have problems you should try re-install before posting. but u have it fixed now so Happy Gaming.:p
