The antlion guard's official name has a bit of a double-meaning going on.

Myrmidont: Antlion guard.

Myrmi/Myrme: Ant.
Dont: Tooth.

Myrmidon: A soldier or a subordinate civil officer who executes cruel orders of a superior without protest or pity.

So, it's name means 'ant-tooth', but it also a variation of 'relentless soldier'.
Pretty clever, I'd say.

The more you know! :dork:

The vortigaunt who gives you the pheropods calls the dead guard a myrmidont.
I missed that the first time I played through the game too, since the vortiguant talks like E.T. But you can read it when you turn on subtitles.

lol
hey, it took them 6 years to release the game didnt it?
im sure they spent 2 of it on figuring out names like this!

What are you talking about?

How does Myrmi/Myrme = Ant or Dont = Tooth?

Hmm... yeah. this is indeed a real hard work!!! :smoking:

Further on is an Ant Lion, an actual species.
They live here in denmark. Though they only are the size of an ant. :)
And they are not as "itsy-bitsy" and kills everything.
Best described as an Ant with a powerfull bite of its size :)

That'd be Latin, I believe?
Is it? That'd be key information to add. Could be Klingon for all I know. Its certainly not English.

Could be in the Vort's language. After all, you only ever hear the word "Myrmidont" from the Vortigaunt. But the Vort languege doesn't sound like that. More like: gallum riiit luuuuung tarrrrr galaga. "Myrmidont" is either something Latin or Greek.

Hey I seperated Gonarch (The Big Mamma headcrab from HL1) into gon-arch
GON
To do with sexual reproduction
ARCH
Leader, ruler
So a gonarch is reproducing ruler which fits it's description quite well.

Also vortigaunt into vorti-gaunt
VORTI
Do do with changing between demensions
GAUNT
Boney; desolate
So vortigaunts are thin things that travel between dementions.

So i guess also that mymelon is the name for a real antlion, that's 3

Reminds me of the name for Achilles' group of soldiers in the Greek Myths....can't remember exactly what they were called.

The Argonauts were with Jason (hydra, golden fleece, Talos (big collossus dude), you know the myth). Do we all remember the movie Jason and the Argonauts? Man, the special effets are really something. ;)

Sometimes Antlions hunch their heads in a way that makes them look more like the HL2 Antlions, see?

Wow, cool!!! Imagine, game designers actually basing something on REAL LIFE!!!!!!!!!! Just goes to show you how great half life 2 really is...

I guess...

I guess, it isn't the first time game designers did that :)

That thing is alot scarier than the Half-Life 2 antlions
