func_water acts like air

I have a func_water in my map.

1. I have all the other sides NODRAW but not the surface. It still looks purple

2. Things just drop through it, doesn't float.

What to do?
 
You dont need to make water a func_ you can just texture the surface and then place a water_lodcontrol (i think thats the name of it) entity nearby.
 
you really don't even need a lodcontrol to make water work. its just nice if you plan on seeing your water from far away.
