ok i just bought an fx-53 for 334$
can anyone help me build the rest of the system for me?
like tell me what parts...and link because i dont know much about socket 940's amds.

Why'd you buy an FX-53 without even really knowing what its compatible with? :| Do your research before spending that much money dude!

Get some RAM. PC3200 DDR or higher. Crucial, Corsair, OCZ, and Mushkin make pretty good RAM sticks.

Get a decent motherboard. Asus, Abit, and MSI make good motherboards. Just make sure its compatible with the 940 sockets.

It could be Socket 939...He'd have to check.
They made two different versions of FX-53.

Yeah, its a good price. I didn't see the other thread but ECC memory on Socket 940 is a little more expensive. But you don't have any issues going above 1gb of memory. Link

Socket 940 is the first socket that will get AMD dual core though. =p

just wondering if the fx-53 better then the 4000+
stupid question but on ebay people pay a lot more for the 4000+

FX53 is the same thing as the 4000+. ;)
2.4GHz and 1MB of L2 Cache.

it is....so whats the differnce?...i hear something bout the memory i dont know..

i may be wrong but didn't they make 2 different chips, one that needed registered DIMMs to work properly, and one that doesn't require registered mem. Worth checking out before you buy memory for it because registered mem is alot more expensive than regular mem i think.

Firstly, we all love the help, but if you don't know what you're talking about, stay the hell out.

Secondly, I'll assume you're positive on it being socket 940. Alright. Now good luck finding a socket 940 mobo. As well, you'll need registered memory. NOT ECC, as someone previously posted. ECC and Registered are NOT the same thing.

For that price (after you count in 940 mobo and registered ram), you could have picked up a gig of low latency 2-2-2-5 stuff, a 3800+, and a basic 939 mobo. Which would perform as well, if not better, and not have an obsolete setup off the bat. Obsolete in the sense that 940 components aren't mainstream anymore.

i was gonna say...if the fx-53 is under 500 bucks already then where the **** have i been lol. i know the fx-53 is old news compared to the fx-55 and fx-57, but its STILL technically a 4000+, and i cant see that being worth the price u paid for it. are u sure its an fx-53?

Geez that's crazy. Socket 940 isn't good!!! You should get a socket 939. If you did get a 940 you have to get slower more expensive registered ram.

well its hard to find 939 so i got the 940...getting slow memory is going to affect the performance?

Registered ram has higher latency and lower speed which does reduce performance a bit, but not too much. As long as you got an fx-53 though... It'll do just fine.

it's pc-3500 but it's cheaper than the other twin packs, you can lower the speed and the latency since the motherboard only runs it at 333mhz.

depending on how much money you have, you can get either the x800xl or the 6800ultra or the x850xt pe

is nforce3 bad?
and wow that ram is expensive...i paid 50$ for 512 kingston...im planning to get another 512 ro 1gb corsair...with it be compatible with kingston?

The RAM in that link is the only RAM you could use with a socket 940 motherboard. In my opinion, you should have researched this before hand. It looks as if you are completely lost and haven't a clue of what you should get. Anyways, you'll be fine if you buy the stuff holydeadpenguin suggested, of course, video cards all boil down to personal prefrence and budget.

what do u mean the only ram? i just need to get registered ram...pc3200 or pc2700...

The ram i suggested is the cheapest two stick set. Even though the motherboard will only run the ram at 333mhz. So you can probably lower the latency since 333mhz is so much lower than the rated speed. I'd reccomend getting an x850 or a 6800ultra. You have like 666 dollars to spend so just pick your pick. Too bad you cant go sli...

sli lol im not made of money...so sli...around 800-1000 for 2 cards...and 200$ for the mb...haha. will it make a difference though? u notice it? can it be 2 x850xt?

No not yet. ATI has no version of sli yet. If you do use 2 x850xts it wont increase performance. You dont have enough money to get an x850 anyway so go with the x800xl it's a good 16 pipe card that performs as well as the 6800gt. It's also cheaper

Wow you really don't know what you're doing do you. :hmph:

I'm gonna get a gig of OCZ value VX's, allong with the rest of my pc this week. Gaming scores on those are awesome for the price!
