I sent an Email to gabe and 1 of the questions was:

. Do you get paid for answering these emails?

I haven't taken a salary since Mike and I started the company. All the
money we made on Half-Life 1 plus more has gone into Half-Life 2. Maybe I
should start doing the Hollywood on Call gig (www.hollywoodiscalling.com).
poor gabe.

So I say we organise an whipround to buy him HL2 as he obviously wont be able to afford it.

Mark how much you want to contribute above.

Wow, thats what you call dedication to producing the best game you POSSIBLY can. I understand more so now why they are so worried about the game being everything they hoped for.

I only wish i didn't suspect Gabe has my email address on ignore/spam control, my address was faked a while ago and went out as the source of many virus mails, i got several back from HL support saying the mail i'd sent was virused and needed to be resent. I obviously hadn't sent them anything at that point :(
Shame really, i'm trying to get in touch about ECTS to :/

Well, seeing as you only take british money, I can't contribute :(

err... is he serious? if he doesn't have salary or benefit and putting all his money into making hl2, then how could he survive all these years long?

How can he live, if he has no money nor earns any?
When Gabe's MS shares vested (Gabe was a Microsoft employee for a long time), he probably became a multi-millionaire overnight. This is how they funded HL1.

Gabe are u a multi-millionaire and making hl2 for fun? if so, send me a free hl2 copy with radeon 9800 256 mb plz.

yeah wraith is with me, and i have also couple of brothers and sisters, send them each a high end computer with a hl2 copy. I will surely use the computers that u send me to open a internet cafe promoting and playing hl2 and its mods only.

All currencies are accepted. Just choose the nearest equivalent british value in the list.

btw you cheap 1p bastards should be shot.

Ill send him the cost of HL2 if he sends me a Radeon 9800 256mb cos hes right, certianly.

Just send him a blank check.. don't put your own name on it though :-P

My life... just kidding :)

Don't worry about Gabe he's doing fine!

I'll send him 50 SEK if VALVe can't make HL3 because lack of money. :)

If we have SEK then....maybe euro! :)

(i dont want to start anything now...im crap at politics and shit!)

gabe got employed by microsoft soon after it was founded. he was one of the core employees in microsofts early times. and since we all know (i hope so) that microsoft company and its shares was one big success and grew extremely fast, it's obvious that gabe got quite a load of money with all his shares and his salary of course, being one of there first employees.
So dont worry about gabe not being to able to buy his own gabe. though he'd deserve the money for it anyway. only few people out in so much effort for a game.

i thought ppl who make games and all that (like officailly) get paid.

and i mean get paid alot!

Looks like a no to the euro this time, but next time it's time for euro-voting i'll think it's gonna be a yes so who knows?! (i think euro is funny) :D

I already am in debt to gabe in giving me the best moments with computer game, ever. So i think the answer would be "everything I own" :)

It will never be a yes to the Euro. Not in Great Britain anyway.

as long as we get the vote for the euro, we won't vote for it, it will be uproar if its forced on us

It won't be forced on you. There will be a vote, and if the first one isn't yes, we'll keep voting until it's a yes.

You forgot to add 'a pint of beer' to the options...

*cough*
well, if your from Germany,, and you fell over yourselves accepting the euro, then so be it :)

I'd buy Gabe a pint if I ever see him in my life.

I may go down to London and wait outside that Trade show thing.

Or maybe not.
