I came across this brilliant transcript of a panel Gabe Newell attended (via RPS). Gabe goes into some details about the expansion into the Russian market and also talks a lot about the various pricing experiments that Valve are carrying out through Steam and some of the surprising results they have seen. This is just a small quote, but it is worth reading the entire thing to see what Gabe had to say.[br]"We do a 75 percent price reduction, our Counter-Strike experience tells us that our gross revenue would remain constant. Instead what we saw was our gross revenue increased by a factor of 40. Not 40 percent, but a factor of 40. Which is completely not predicted by our previous experience with silent price variation."
