As far as I know GF4MX440 is a DirectX 7 video card. However, to my surprise, in the manual of a Gainward GF4MX440 it is stated that it has "full support for the DirectX 8.1 standard and OpenGL 1.3". I'm a little confused now. If it was true I would be able to run Silent Hill 3, SC: Pandora Tomorrow and Deus Ex 2, right (they require the pixel shader v1.1 (I think) which DX 8.1 cards suipport). What's going on?

you will not be able able to play any of those games, beacuse ur card would get frightened by the moral dilemas, and it would die.

in sh3, u kill ur wife, end of story

Will you answr my question? Some moderator should see this...

I think the card only has partial support for 8.1, so texchnically it's still a DX7 card. I'm not that knowledgable of the situation myself though, so I'd get a second opinion. :)

the GeForce 4MX series are really nothing more than GeForce2s on Steriods with no support for progammable shaders or anything, it is a completely ugly video card and disgrace to the naming methods of nVidia, IMO.

Pro-tip: Don't buy your video card @ Best Buy!

Yes, the card sucks for new games.
It'll run Half Life 2 without SM2 effects, just like a TNT2 :D

Here is an easy answer.....get Radeon 9800 PRO.....you can get one for $150.....anyone can afford it

Well first I wanted to buy some better GPU but since I have a cELERON 1.8Ghz some ppl suggested I bought a better processor. I bought an Athlon 3000+ but it turned out to be damaged so I will get the money back. So once again what do you think (those who alredy answered this question don't have to do that again): change processor or change GPU?

Here is the deal, the Geforce 4 MX 440 is DX 8 and DX 9 compliant. This is different than having a card that is DX 8 and 9 support.

Compliant means that it you can play DX 8 and DX 9 games with no problems, but you can't use any of the features of DX 8 and DX 9.

Support means that it can use all of the features of DX 8 and DX 9.

Your manual is trying to confuse you as your video card is DX 8 compliant.

Well, in the manual it's written "wsparcie", what in Polish (I have the manual in this language) means "support" ;]
