Game was kind enough to autosave in a situation where I had 1hp, surrounded by those little jumping critters in flight. No big deal if ur fast enuff on the load, but that usually takes a few tries. Now the game still decided to autosave after load, so the 'backupsave' is gone too. Then the game decided it was a good idea to save again after I died, and do it twice.

End result, I have 2 autosaves and when I load both I'm already dead in the same location (after church in ravenholm, the mineshaft with a gazillion of those critters). This has me completely miffed ofcourse, and there's no way to go to an earlier point in the game, no autosaves anymore and starting a new game from chapter ravenholm dumps me at the start and is extremely ghey for continuity. I've looked around but haven't found a cheat/console command to revive when you're dead. Anyone know if there is and what the command is??

Also, what is the official HL2 forum? Coz if there is one, it's a pain to find it.

I don't know whose brilliant idea it was at valve to allow autosave when you're already dead, or to allow autosaving the same spot over and over, but I'd like a piece of him.

This is unusual but try this: load a game when you're dead - you can do that, I assume. Then go to the console and type "restart". I can't say where that will put you, but it should not be at the start of Ravenholm, but somewhere not too far from where you are.

ahaaaa, did the trick, dumped me just in the beginning of the shaft in the state I was when I came there... Thx a bunch.
edit: well apparantly not the exact same state, just the guns you should have and 1 clip of each, but better than nothing ^^

I sometimes have that bug when I reload. I dunno why.

The restart command does that, it puts you at some recent point (after last loading?) with the default weapon loadout. I like the feature - if you restart/start a game in some middle point, you have the weapons you're supposed to have.

It puts you at the start of the map you're playing.

For the future Sintel, if you save manually (press esc, then save from the menu) your saves will not be overwrighted or deleted. I save manually quite often, just to be secure if the autosaves/quicksaves gets messed up.

This problem is a bit wierd to me, just hate bugs

Anyway the game is so exciting that I never forget to save.
If you quick save it's a lot easier but the previous quick save will be overwriten. If you stop the game and save from the menu the save will stay.
But as for me, my computer always autosaves after each loading in the game, and I think that's how the game is made too.

that mineshaft is a pain. i always do it over until I reduce my level of pummeling by the headcrabs to an acceptable level.

But your computer only keeps the two last autosaves, the rest will atomiatcly be deleted ass you progress trough the game.

I actually thought it was easy on the subsequent times I played through it.

First, explosive barrels - wait until a critter or 2 are approaching it, and shoot it quickly.

Second - crowbar. Even on Hard, where the poison headcrabs can survive a shot from the Magnum (something no Combine can do!!), you kill any headcrab with one hit from the crowbar.

Thx for the tips; well I usually only save manually when I quit, or when I went through a hard part and haven't gotten an autosave yet. But as the autosave system isn't perfect, saving manually more often should do the trick.

On my second run through, I just found me a spot high enough that the crabs barely couldn't reach, and blast them all with the grav gun while they tried to jump for me. Takes a lil while but its fun seeing them all pile up under you.
