Game blamed for murder.

Oh thats really sad. But the game should not be blamed, the game is not fu*cked up, that kid his mind is. So banning a game is useless to me.. anywhere.

To that game Manhunt, i always heard about it, maybe im gonna play it some time on the ps2.. to see whats up with that game

Yep.. they blame the game instead of themselves for letting their kid buy the game.

The kid was 17. He could buy the game on his own free will.

Edit: Just realized, not the same rating system over there. Ignore me!

Everytime it's the same story, the game didn't make the kid go nuts, he was already crazy to begin with. If it weren't Manhunt it could have simply been a movie or halloween. Too bad no one noticed he was clinically insane before he killed that poor kid.

yeah, i saw this on itv news earlier tonight :(

looks like games are in a bad light at the minute. not a good thing when Doom3's around the corner :( (Doom3 !!! :D:D)

metallica - fade to black

I'm going to kill some demons with a chainsaw. And I'll blame Doom 3!

My sons twenty now and hes left home and has joined the navy. But he lived at home when he was seventeen and there is know way I would of let him bring that game home. But there are kids a lot younger whose parents think its ok to let them play games like Manhunt. Now thats sick.

Hey, crushenator is a zombie/skeleton demon spawn!!! I'LL BLOW YOU TO PIECES WITH MY SHOTGUN!!!!!

[gun shots ring]

SHUZER! HELP ME FIND MORE DEMONS!!!!!

(later that day) Hey officer? Do you have any napkins? This blood all over me is getting really sticky. What are you staring at? It's iD's fault! Go get them! Wait... If they're demons I'LL TAKE CARE OF THEM!!

Doom3 is monsters and stuff, not realistic. But yeah i also think blaming a game is bullsjit. But now im getting curious about Manhunt, never tryed it out for ps2. Murdered or not, a game is a game...

Wow. Playing Manhunt must make you a killer! It made this kid insane!!

Wait.....this was an isolated incident? The kid didn't have any real sense of what was right or wrong anyway? It didn't happen to any of the other millions who bought and played the game? Well, my mistake then. It all seemed so plausible!

"oh my god, shuzer killed that poor, defensless deamon covered in the blood of virgins! and look, there are virgins lying around the dead deamon! Shuzer must have killed them, too!"

seriously, i find it really annoying when people who know nothing about games, and have probally never even played one or seen one being played, state that a game is responsible for offensive behaviour.

I mean, like other people have said, whats the difference in a film and a game? sure, you influence a character in a game, but a film can also be more gory. and the woman honestly belives that she could ban all "violent" games. Basically all games are violent, she would only need to walk into a store to discover this. wake up and smell the corpses!!! theres just as much chance of banning video games as there is us banning badgers.

and the kid was a phyco anyway, there were probally many things he was "obbsessed" with or influenced by, but the reporters pick up on games because they know the least about them, and they appear mesmorising to kids.

and you would have to be a very immiture or irresponsible child to be offended or influenced by a game that is violent. most parents let their 10-14 year old kids play 15 and 18 rated games because they know that they wont go out and kill people.

what is sick is that a kid is demented or influencial enough that he cannot be trusted with an 18 game, and so his parents are forced to disallow hiom playing it.

what is even more sick, is that parents dont trust responsible kids enough to let them play these games. What will damage a kid more... watching a imaginary man kill people, or watching on TV as real people are blown apart by terrist bombers, then being throw about 500 different opinions...

"there, we locked up shuzer for killing that deamon, and banned doom3! hey, theres another deamon! lets say hello! why doesnt he have such a lovely red skin tone..."

^ well said kage.

Either a video game made him do it or he's a complete loony. What makes more sense?? :/

The game is crap and way over the line, I had no doubt it'd be getting this kind of blame.

i had to write a essay about if the media causes violence, and ill put the 3 pages of the essay into one sentence, a game cant make you kill somone/ commit criminal act. Even though some games show violence and murders and such, it still doesnt mean that the kid has to go and reinact it. The kid has a decision, which is, 1. ill just play this game for fun and know that all of this killing is fake and shouldnt be done in real life, or 2. im going to play this game, think its cool to kill someone, and go and reinact it. So basically, the game doesnt make the kid commit a crime, and kid decides on his own, or something like that. And yea, i know its more then a sentence.

Just to play the devil's advocate...
[DADVOCATE]
But if it were not for the game, the crime would have never happened!! For example, in this situation, if Manhunt and all violent games had been banned, no one would have been brutally murdered. Certainly, the child and his parents are responsible, but it's THAT DEMONIC GAME WHICH SPARKED THIS MESS!!!! The feather which broke the camel's back, if you will. [/DADVOCATE]

Now what I really think. This game was the feather, not the 2 ton weight. The parents, society and the child's mental state had a MUCH larger impact on the situation.

I won't either because the game itself isn't very good.

I played it and I did enjoy it for a couple of hours, and not once during my time with it did I even feel close to going out and really murdering someone.

Maybe the game was the thing that triggered the lad off, but it would have happened anyway. He would have watched a violent film or a violent TV show and it would have triggered the same reaction.

It is a very sad story but it happened and I highly doubt Rockstar North will or even should take any responsibility.

This all happened in my city ;(

The game is not at fault for the murder, the person is. The kid lured the guy to a secluded area so he could steal his money, then he killed him with a hammer. That's all there is to it, the fact that he played Manhunt doesn't change anything. Sure, games can have a psychological effect on young children, but this guy was 17 years old - old enough to accept responsibility for anything he does.

I've played the game, and I enjoyed it very much. The gore was excessive and unnecessary, but the game itself was very good. I played it, beat it, and enjoyed it. I am no less sane and no more violent then I was before I played it.

Next thing you know I will go to a Triple Maxx Security Prison and escape by killing guards in silent fashions or with a screwdriver....(Escape from Butcher Bay)....I just want to beat the crap out of the idiots who think games make kids want to kill..

And people say video games are harmless ;)

Hahah. You're not doing gamers any favours there, mate :D

Blah. Games don't make kids kill people.

Cliche, but: Games don't kill people, PEOPLE KILL F'ING PEOPLE. :p

Well people are idiots...the game was fun, but if people can't see it as a game, but more like a way of living...well, then who's to blame?

Gun's dont kill people, games dont kill people, Pencils dont stab people, pencils dont make spelling mistakes. people Kill people and people make spelling mistakes. the day a gun, or bomb, or tank is put on trial for murdering someone is the day hippies take over the world and the world goes to hell.

The fathers, excuse my language, a dick. Maybe he should look at the way he brought his child up before making statements like :

"I can't believe that this sort of material is allowed in a society where anarchy is not that far removed.

"It should not be available and it should not be available to young people."

Honestly, video games don't cause violence. If ANYBODY plays a game and gets an urge to commit murder for real, they are seriously disturbed. Most human beings can distinguish the difference between fantasy and reality. I mean, how many of us really played super mario bros. and had the urge to stomp on a person's head and see a coin jump out of their ass?

I already tried that and it didn't work :(

But then they'll blame all the games you play for the beatings you inflict ;)

Kinda sad; everyone passes the buck. Music made me kill, games made me kill etc No one can ever take responsibility for their own actions. If the game is to blame, than how can the parents not be? How can the kid not be? If the kid is not to blame, and the game is, he should be released I guess. Just silly.

As for Manhunt. Have it, played it for a while, got sick of it. It IS a horrible game and does stoop to the lowest level of humanity for no real reason whatsoever and if it got removed from store shelves, I would not shed a tear either.

Wait a minute!!!

Do I detect "prostitution" in this story??!!??!?!?!?

From the sounds of things, the killer lured the victim to the park under the false impression that he would get some action. That would explain the two girls and why the victim brought money.

The killer wouldn't have bothered to kill and rob the victim if he knew the victim was bringing money. In this case, a decent amount from I gather.

I think prostitution is to blame!!!!!

And who promotes prostitution: pimps

And who are pimps or act like pimps: "Rap artists" and "Street thugs"

Rap is to blame!!!

Rap artists promote the gangster way of life and pimping of sexy ladies. And it's a known fact that the majority are dark-skinned like the victim and possibly the killer.

Aren't Rap artists and Pimps as much to blame as video games? In fact I think the age limit to listening "explicit material" albums is only 16 or 17. Manhunt was rated 18+. (correct me if I'm wrong)

This death is a tragic loss, and very painful experience for those involved. But there are more things at blame than just a video game.

I'm coming to the same conclusions as the parents did.

I should be a lawyer. :hmph:

manhunt is indeed a disgusting game
however i wouldnt blame it entirely for the murder.. instead id see it as inspiring for how the murder took place
if the game had never been created, i imagine he would've eventually gone forth with the murder at some other point in time, or in some other way
he was no doubt unstable to begin with

Im 15 and i played manhunt a couple times...doesnt mean im going to go out and kill somebody. The kid is just a phyco. or his parents ****ed him up

there's a mature label for a reason ...he shouldnt have been able to buy the game in the first place.

out of curiosity how many of you who have said they played Manhunt arent old enough to legally buy it?

I played it, beat it, and liked it. I'm 15. The games death animations are extremely unrealistic, for instance you can "saw" off someones head through their neck with a wire in very little time (then you can through their head at walls and enemies to distract them). Anyone who would take it seriously is stupid. The game has great, suspensful stealth mechanics and very fun firefights. Some people are just too ignorant and immature to play games like this, and it can make an impression on them. But this guy was 17 years old, I doubt the game had anything to do with the killing. He acted completely on his own for his own reasons.

And as far as violence goes, the game doesn't hold a candle to movies like Kill Bill (great movie). Sure it's over the top and somewhat silly, but no game, except for maybe Postal, is even close to being as controversial as many movies.

Kinda funny how the only people who blame games for murders have never played a next-gen console in their life.

here in my country nobody cares about the ages
for example I see 10 years old kids playing GTA3 and they know that make what they do in the videogame is the most stupid thing they can do

is true that we play a violent game we had a feling to be violent but we use all that feling of violence in the game (for example when I play half-life and had 16 of life and shoot all a MP5 cartride against a alien grunt or somehing like that)and when I play violence games I just want to still play them

on topic, is really stupid that people blame videogames or something like that for stuff like this, the parents must told to theyr sons that are VIDEOGAMES, just for FUN, are not REAL, and keep that in the kids head
