Game closes without error message after changing options

When I change options for the game from the main menu like turning off pixel shaders, and then press apply or done, the game closes without an error message.

The reason I am trying to turn off pixel shaders is because although my computer meets the minimum requirements (I checked with Can you run it?), my graphics card (Intel graphics controller) does not support pixel shaders. That is probably why when I start a new game, there is a blank screen but I can still hear that freaky guy's voice and everything. (Since it might be useful to know, the same thing happens in Alien Arena)

My question is, is there a way to change Half Life 2's options outside of the game (like a config file), or is there a simpler way to fix both errors.

Here is my Steam generated comp info:

Thanks for your attention. I hope the information was helpful.

I found the config.cfg and recognize some of the options in there, but I can't find the pixel shader one. Does anyone know which one it is?

I would appreciate it very much if someone could post the config.cfg (C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\(ACCOUNTNAME)\half-life 2 demo\hl2\cfg\config.cfg) before and after you change the pixel shader setting from high to low or the other way around, so I can look for any differences.

Or if someone already knows, it would help a lot.

Thanks.

I don't think you can change the shaders in the config.cfg...
