I can't help but feel sorry for the average, casual game consumer nowadays, mainly when it comes to console games, because of the advertising I see on TV. No longer are the days of showing game footage for games, but instead... nearly all games are shown only using CGI or non game related material.
I saw a call of duty commercial, one of the expansion or something for a console, and on it they say something along the lines of "Most realistic combat simulation ever", and in the commercial, they only show a very detailed, very cool looking CGI from a soldiers perspective of a battle. I'm sure many kids and parents out there will think that's what the gameplay is like, but they're surely to be very dissapointed once they pick the game up.
I personally would wish all games would show some actual gameplay moments along with the CGI etc, to advertise them, but I guess its better to be a bit underhanded to try to snatch a few more sales than really show what you are offering to the consumers. Glad i'm an informed gamer and don't fall for any of these tricks =)
