Game crashes...

I downloaded HL2 from steam today, installed the newest drivers for my system:
P4 2,66Mhz
768 Ram
GF 4 TI

and i launched it, but as soon as the VlaveIntro was over, there is just a black screen, with the cursor, and after about 5 min. there is a loading screen, but it doesn't load, and crashes.

Please help me!

in the play games screen, right click half life 2 and hit properties
check that it says it has 100%. Had this myself this morning when apparently finished downloading. I checked in the properties and it said required update and ws at 66%. What on earth steam is doing i dont know but now its finished in that screen too it works ok.
