Game freezes then quits to Desktop

hi,

have played HL2 so far without problems.
I'm at the level where you drive the buggy, then you get to at house where you get the rocket launcher, to shoot down the plane....

i have just received the Rocket launcher, and moments later the game freezes, then quits to desktop... no error messages or nothing. Its the exact same place every time....

theres some files in my hl2 dir, called crash dump files, for example: Steam__104482__2004_11_21T1_53_39C258296.mdmp
dont know what to do with them.

my system:

Sapphire radeon X800
Driver: ver. 6.14.10.6490
P4 2,4
768 MB Ram
Win XP sp1
Asus MB, P4S8X, 8xAGP

maybe i should just try to reinstall as some has suggested... but would like to know if others have the same problem, and a solution. Is there an official place to get support for half-life 2 ??

I reccomend going to the Half Life 2 Tec. support site and getting help there.

i have the same problem, the only solution i found it's -nosound in launch prop. then i pass the moment of the freeze, and i remove -nosound ..... This problem happens a lot of times in the game for me (one time in the canal when i shotdown the fly, one time at blackmessa just before receive the no G gun, one time at the begining of the lvl which is after, and another time when the paster leave me after the cimetary )....
I think it's the autosave which makes this bug....
I hope valve will find the fix ... and sorry for my bad english
