I haven't played HL2 in a while, but since my latest install/update, the game has been occasionally freezing. I can't quit, move cursor, etc, leaving me no option but to restart my computer.
Bought Episode 1 today, and I have the same problem in that. I have the latest drivers and all that, Radeon 9550 video card.
I'll describe some occasions when it has happened, in case it helps:
1) Sandtraps: A dropship's gun hits me while a milk crate launched with the gravity gun simultaneously smashes a window. Game freezes and I hear a split second of gun, window breaking sounds repeatedly.
2) When I reached the top of the hospital in Ep1, and the gunship shoots at the roof. Game froze and unfroze twice, then froze up for 5+ minutes until I restarted, the sound of bullets hitting metal stuttering and constantly playing.
