Game gets stuck during loading screen.

I apologize if this has been posted but ... I downloaded the game via Steam, installed HL2, and CS:S. I updated both of them and it shows HL2 as 60% completed, and CS:S 90% completed, and it says both are in need of an update.

My problem is that ... it isnt updating, instead just playing the game and freezing. Is there some patch i need to DL? CS:S runs OK, but HL2 freezes atthe loading screen.

Specs:
AMD Althlon 3200+ XP Processor
1 gig DDRAM
160 gig memory
2.2 ghz speed
Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb

Well, Half-Life 2 must be 100% loaded are it will freeze at the load screen. The steam servers are very busy at the moment please try again.

It isnt even checking for updates though ... just playing it.
