Game installed and ready but not starting!

Hey everyone im having a major issue atm... I cleaned out my pc 2day and reinstalled windows xp and everything necessary. Half life 2 is installed now and is ready to launch... Even when i click launch i get the msg that its preparing to launch, and after that msg disapeers it doesnt launch at all... Does anyone know whats wrong?? I used 2 play before i reinstalled everything so i know its not an installation issue... Thanks :stare:

Firstly - where did you get your HL2?

Its a real copy, i bought it... It just says preparing to launch and then when that disapeers it doesnt launch.
