I've installed the latest drivers from ati and I'm having a ton of trouble making the game bright enough. The monitor is very dark, but though I can make the desktop bright enough the game doesn't seem to be affected by any gamma changes I make in display settings. Does anyone else know how to change hl2s brightness via the ati driver software?

Changing the brightness and contrast on your monitor should affect HL2. I don't see how HL2 could override that.

apparently there is a console command mat_monitorgamma
default is 2, you couls try raising it. 2.2 is athe CRT standard. Try up to 2.5 or so if that's too dark. Meh. I think you need to enable the console...
Yep.

In order to enable the console, you will need to go to the Half Life 2 “Options” menu, then select “Keyboard,” then “Advanced,”, then checkbox “Enabled Developer Console.”

try the settings for your video card [right click, properties, etc].

i used to have darkness problems as well and tried quite a few programs, none of which seemed to work properly.

then one time someone introduced me to this program and well.. i had nothing to lose so i gave it a shot.
it worked and has been working ever since...i would recommend u try PowerStrip and see if this helps... its helped me when 5-6 other programs failed to help.. anyway good luck.
